Default Handicap parking....is it just me?

Over the years I have watched many Corvettes parked in handicap parking spaces. And during the recent Corvette Caravan every night at the hotels and at the Corvette Museum the handicap parking spaces were filled with Corvettes.

I could not help but think about how that reflected badly on Corvette owners because the fact is if you can get in and out of a Corvette how badly handicap could you be not to be able to park in the non handicap spots 10 feet away?

I am ready to be enlightened on how somebody can get in/out of a Corvette but can’t walk 10-30 feet.

Handicap tags can be for things you can’t see, like heart or lung problems, not just mobility problems you can see. If someone has a valid handicap tag they have every right to park in one of those spaces.

Seriously? They can get in/out which is 5 times harder than walking.

My wife does not like to walk great distances so I drop her off them go park in the regular parking spots. Could she get a handicap parking sign, yes, but she wants to leave those spaces for people who are really handicapped.

Getting in and out of a low-slung car is an entirely different thing than walking.

There are many conditions which wouldnt make it difficult to get in and out of the Vette but could be difficult to walk that extra 10 feet or more

My wife has MS. Picture this, an RX350 parked in the handicapped space with a big bike rack on the back. I often wonder what comments folks make who are not aware that one of the occupants needs one of those electric carts to get around.

I’m specifically talking about a Corvette and not one had a bike rake or anything like that on it. Just say’n.

My brother in law has a 2008 C6. He has a handicap tag. He also has kidney and heart issues and will be having heart surgery soon. Getting in and out of the Corvette is NOT an issue for him. Walking distances is.

Really as a previous post mentioned heart and lung conditions can make it very difficult for people to walk any distance doesnt mean that they cant get in and out of a Corvette and drive. cant they enjoy a Corvette like the rest of us that are fortunate enough to be healthy enough to walk a longer distance in a parking lot

I can give you one example: 4 years ago, I had a stroke.

While in the hospital for a short time, I contracted a staph infection in my right foot. Which put me back in the hospital for IV antibiotics, and left me unable to walk on either foot for almost six months. I eventually could drive, but still had a very hard time walking. Getting in and out of the Vette was not a problem.

See?

Maxie2U, I think you may have a good point. I agree getting in/out of a Vette is much more difficult than almost any other vehicle. I don't really see many Vettes in handicapped parking spots. But, I do see a lot of fatties getting out of cars in these spaces. And, waddling into stores. It is what it is.

I broke my left foot and ankle some years ago. My C5 Z06 had a bigger foot well than my other cars so I drove it, even with a manual transmission. Getting in and out was no big deal with a cast, but getting around to the back to get my crutches as well as walk were both hard.

I'm a Disabled Veteran with a handicap DV plate. I still have good upper body strength but arthritis wrapped around my spine and multiple joint replacements. I can pull myself out and lower myself in fine but walking distance can be tough. I hope you don't go thru life judging others harshly.

I have severe nerve damage to my left hip leg and foot. Numb from the knee down , I wear a brace that keeps my knee from giving way , it also keeps my foot from dragging. That’s why I don’t have a 7M. Because my right side is in better condition I can turn push up with my hand and lift with my right leg. Trying to drag my left leg around wears me out very fast. I used to be like you and wonder why were there so many handicapped spaces at Lowe’s, they should be home in bed, now I’m living it. I realize it is hard to understand unless you have walked in their shoes. And there are a lot of lazy healthy people that get the placard from a dead relative or lie to a doctor to get one. I love this car so much and it is now about the only thing that puts a smile on my face, I put forth the effort it takes to get in and out. We don’t know how many of those corvette drivers are handicapped, my experience has taught me not to judge others. Save the wave!

My dad has war injuries that got him a purple heart and he is partially disabled. He never wanted a handicap tag and likes to park far away but you'd never know he had issues looking at him.

Default Sticker shock

Our local TV station did a thing videoing normal healthy people with grandma's sticker parking in handicap spaces and how the real handicap people could not. find a open space. NO respect now a days.

I agree that the handicapped parking spaces are abused by people, My wife & I watched a young overweight man ride through the grocery store in a store supplied electric cart buying groceries. As we left the store, there he was walking down the road with 4 loaded up bags in his hands....Lol
