We will be attending the Museum in Motion tour #4 to NE KY at the end of October. Afterward, we plan to be heading from the Lexington KY area toward Asheville, NC and I am trying to find a route that is more interesting than the interstates.
I stumbled onto a website (scenicbyways.info) that provides a list of scenic roads by state. Using this as a guide, I am considering the following route and I am looking for any comments on the condition of the roads, scenery, attractions, etc.
US25 south out of Berea KY to Corbin KY.
Head east on 25E/25/70 (Cumberland Parkway) to Hot Springs then south on 209 to I40.
Any thoughts or comments?
In this general area, we've already taken the Blue Ridge Parkway, Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Jim, I'm not familiar with your planned roads, but if they aren't interstates I say that's the way to go. We love the back roads also. Also, living in North Carolina we've traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway many times, and I will say that it's beautiful every time we take the ride. So, don't dismiss it even if you've driven it before. If you have the time for a day trip, grab the Parkway out of Asheville heading east to Hwy 321 into Boone. NC for a lunch at the Dan'l Boone Inn http://www.danlbooneinn.com/ . Makes for a beautiful ride, and at the end some great food. Enjoy your trip.

We like the BRP but not as much as some other folks. Blue Ridge is very pretty but the speed limits are low, strictly enforced. IIRC, limited passing zones to get around the motor homes you'll find. And the scenery, though nice, doesn't change much hour after hour.
Last time, we alternated between BR and other major roads.
