Default Skip shift CEL

Havent seen this problem in a search. I had a check engine light come on. Since I was having the car inspected I had the dealer check the code. It was P0803 skip shift malfunction. I had put the skip shift eliminator on about a year ago. apparently it caused the check engine light. I just had them remove it a reconnect the system. All is good now no light. I never heard of the skip shift eliminator causing the cel. anybody else have this happen

Never had it do that on my 2015 Z51 and not on my GS that I have now. That's three years of driving between the two cars.
I suppose it could happen if the skip shift had an issue with the resistor or connection.

All the connections and power in through the skip shift eliminator was good so I guess something inside there went bad

Just pitch the faulty (in all likelihood) Skip-Shift Eliminator and drive it as if it were a... sports car. You'll never know that SS is reconnected.

I have its back to stock and so far the car hasnt tried to make me go into 4th from 1st . I usually shift at a higher speed so it never really kicked in before The only time it interfered was in a slow speed situation in traffic.

I had a skip shift eliminator go bad on my C6. There is a resistor inside with the same resistance as the skip shift solenoid. Apparently the resistor did not have a sufficient watt rating and burned out. The replacement lasted for years.

Also put one on my 2014 and just moved it to my 2019 - no issues on either car for 5+ years.

Yeah the resistors burn easily and/or crack over time (sometimes a very long time, sometimes not so much). I'd just get another one for a C5 or C6. For C7 it's almost not a need since you just accelerate out of it easily without a CAGS.

Of course, I am a big hypocrite and have on in my C7 too. HAHA!

I thought about getting a skip shift eliminator, but it hasn't been an issue for me. I get the skip shift notification on the DIC farily often but the car rarely makes me shift to 4th. I usually go to 2nd with no resistance. Skip shift on my previous 'Vette's was a lot more intrusive and annoying.

IMO the CAG skip shift eliminator is a solution looking for a problem. I bought one and never put it in. It's in a desk drawer somewhere. I rarely shift below about 3,000 RPM so it never has a chance to kick in.

The resistor in the skip shift eliminator has either burnt out or is damaged somehow.

did you buy your car new or used?

When I sold my 2015, I left the skip shift thing in there.

While I agree that with the C7, it rarely kicks in compared to earlier generations, I still have one in my C7's. Most of the time, the light never comes on indicating that it would have blocked a shift to 2nd, but sometimes it does when I'm driving very slow. Those times are when I'm glad I put it in there.

Hi...I just put the SS override module in my new C7 a few weeks ago. Had one in my C5 for 15 years without issues. It could be the unit you put in...I posted a forum query before I bought mine, and found that the earlier C7's used a different one...and it was causing the code issue that you mentioned. I ordered the one that is apparently made for the 2019, and it's been fine.

The one I had worked perfectly for 6 months or so then the light came on. I am just going to go without now. I accelerate enough that it wont interfere. I checked before I bought mine and it was supposed to be good for my 15

Bought her new.

I had a bit of a chuckle at myself yesterday on my way home from work. I was in traffic and went to shift into 2nd, as the skip shift notification flashed on the dash, and I was forced to shift into 4th. That's the first time its done that in quite awhile.
