I read alot of posts. Love to read your opinion. My history. 3 AMGs. 71' Vette and 72 Chevelle Big Block. 750 hp Viper (nitrous). 10 sec 2004 408 Vette. Do my own work...1996 CE. ...PERFECT ..smashed. so now what?
nearing 60. Go for a 13 427 or hit a 2019 last year front engine ?
IIRC the 427 is only available as a convertible. I’d go LS3 over the drop valve 427.
You bring up a good point.
I've had both a 427 AKA Ls7 and a Stingray.
I loved the Ls7, but behind almost every moment ( of the last couple years) was " is this the end?" It's true, even though I drove it 70,000 miles w/o a problem. No warranty, now for you if you buy.
I think the real question is do you want a C6 or a C7?
If you want a C7, then buy one. They are freaking awesome!
If you want a C6 Ls7, then buy one that is already fixed, or you should be ready to do so as part of your buying plan. Again freaking awesome car, but it may have an unexploded bomb, which should be taken into consideration when buying.
Do you want a convertible? - C6 or C7
Do you want a 1 year only convertible (that is awesome)? - 427 or C7 ZR1
Do you want a NA convertible or supercharged convertible? C6 427, C7 Stingray, C7 GS, C7 Z06, C7 ZR1.
My vote doesn't matter, what do you want to do with the car?
ZR1 convertible.......1 year only convertible that is awesome and don't have to worry about LS7 issues, if you believe there is such a thing.
i love a vert, and a cheap vert even better. but as they say above, buy the c6 427 WITH the replacement heads already installed. or source them and as you say, you do it yourself. or, take advantage of the 10 year improvement on the problem-free C6 ZR1 motor (2019 Z06 already has many of the C7 ZR1 internals, if you catch the urge to light it up to mega horsepower) i love the c7 Z06, it kinda got caught in a suweet pricing spot, betwixt the base motor models and a wallflower to those seeking the ZR1, and hoo boy the prices through mid year this year were back in the good old 20 percent off days. Cars are not wine, they do not age well, so if you have both the itch and scratch, the 2019 Z06, droptop if you can find one, smiling sweetly in the arms of the 3 year btb warranty.
I had a ‘13 427 convertible and I loved the car but ultimately went to a ‘17 Z51 because the C7 offered more to me in terms of look and technology. I do miss the “drama” of the LS7 though! That motor is a beast and the valve issues can be fixed with a head swap if you are concerned about it. I also had a ‘15 Z28 with the LS7 which I tracked some with no issues but others I know did have valve issues but none with fewer than 30,000 miles. The 427 vert is a rare car and a lot of fun to drive and some times I wish I had hung on to mine.
