I live in a state (TX) requiring a front license plate, and am not too happy about how the plastic setup for the front tag touches the paint on the front bumper. It's on there pretty snug, but with high speed driving, I know that the mount will move around and rub against the paint. My concern is that over time the plastic mount will damage the paint. Has that been a concern among Corvette owners? Do any alternate options exist for mounting a front license plate?
Yes, the Aeroplate plugs into the grille and doesn't ride on the bumper. It may not be legal in all states since it could be lower than their plate height requirement but generally people who use it aren't hassled.
Yes, my car came with both mounts, but the Aeroplate doesn't fit my front tag, and I would need to drill holes to install the plate. I would much rather use it and not have the mount touch the bumper's paint....

The piece that has the embossed "Corvette" snaps right off and you mount your plate to the remaining part. It's ridiculously simple to do
My C7 is a 2019 model, and GM must have changed the front plate setup because it's not as on your blue Corvette. I've just checked my front plate again, and there's no way to mount the bracket without contact with the bumper paint. The top of the plastic mount must come over the bumper's lip. It doesn't fit if I try to screw it in lower just over the grille. At any rate, I'll ask about it when I bring in the car for my first oil change.

You should have received two separate plate mounting brackets, one that fits entirely within the front grille opening and one that rides a little higher. If you only received one, then the dealer owes you the other.
Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying. I received two mounts with my new Corvette, a small one that fits the license plate (and has corresponding holes for the screws) and a larger one with a Corvette cover that pops off. The larger one with the Corvette cover that comes off fits right over the grille and would be the preferred option. The only problem is that the cover doesn't have any holes for screwing in the plate. I suppose that I could get out the drill, but it just seems strange that there aren't any holes for fastening the tag.
You’ll find some little indents in the surface of the bracket that line up with the locations of the 4 holes in your plate. Just start driving the screws into those locations, they’ll self tap into the plastic bracket. Don’t drill. I’m assuming you have the 4 self tapping screws.
Ok, figured it out at last! The mount with the Corvette insert does have dimples in the plastic for where the 4 screws go, and the plate is slightly bent when it's installed. Now, the front plate is mounted over the grill without contact with the bumper's paint, which was my concern. I appreciate it, guys! I don't feel too bad, as the guys at the Chevrolet dealership didn't know either, lol.

Good choice in the aero mount, which does not touch the painted surface of the car. I have it on mine and once you bend the license plate to match the contour of the mount, it looks good.

I used the Aeroplate on my '14 Z51, did both stop-and-go and freeway driving in 105+ ambient temps for several hours and never had a cooling issue (nor A/C for that matter)
(using the Aeroplate on my '19 GS as well and no cooling issues either)
