Something has caused the cut. I have not had that issue and hopefully never do, but not sure anything short of replacing the carpet will fix it for you.
That is not damage from wear or a wound. As you say: "it's coming apart"
That is a seam in the carpet that has failed. Or it's a pulled thread. Given the type of carpet it is, it would not surprise me. Kind of like pulling a thread on a seam which looks intact, but which the bobbin thread never really connected. Or pulling on a chain-stitch. Given the excess in one of your pics, I would say this.
If you still have a BTB warranty, use it now. if not then buy Lloyds mats to cover it up.
