I bought a 2LT a month ago. On star was a one month free trial if you refused to provide a CC number and three months if you gave them a CC number. My free trial is over.

I have received free trials of OnStar on several of my vehicles and never renewed and did not give them a credit card number. But if you do buy a new car, try the service out and see if you like it. For some it is a service they want on the car.
When purchasing a new 2019, do you get free OnStar for a trial period?
I did sign up for the 3 month trial...but cancelled it after 2 and got a confirmation # just in case they do start billing my credit card. Not too worried. Also didn't use it in the 2 months...definitely wouldn't pay the $35/month (here in Canada) they want for it.
If it is a 'free' trial, why do they ask for a CC? That ain't free, that is entirely transparent attempt to obligate you. Minimum your face the hassle of calling and fighting OnStar's hierarchy of sales reps trying to retain you. Truth, I don't get OnStar. I've got a cell phone that does everything OnStar does save maybe lock/unlock my car remotely. How often do I need that? Never. Someone steals the car? I don't want it back so no need for me to help try and find it. Wreck? If I can't call it in, I've got more issues than OnStar will solve. OnStar had a useful purpose when no one had iPhones grafted to their ear. Today, it is yesterday's news. Maybe not worth that?
The biggest drag is the onslaught of calls an emails from OnStar trying to get you back after the trial period. They are damn determined to get some $$ out of you and very relentless. I did the freee 1 month with no CC info involved (thanks salesman). They keep lowering their offers, but also lower their services.
Truth be told, I used the app 2x to lock and unlock my Corvette in the trial month. I was like oouuu cool, but I think I’ll save my money and pass.
When the trial ends you can sign up for various packages. If you don’t I think they still send you a report of some kind. The features I like are the ability to unlock your doors if you get locked out and the ability to track your car and/or disable it if it’s stolen. The emergency SOS feature is a good one too. You can also call for information about the car and they’ll connect you to a GM help line.
I keep OnStar on the Corvette only for several reasons. 1. I don't have the run flat tires anymore and I use the vette for road trips, so if I get a flat, it's just a button push away for assistance rather than looking up some rip off artist on my cell phone. 2. If someone steals the car, I want the ability to make him go only 15 mph, and a cell phone doesn't allow that. 3. I have factory navigation and the voice activation sucks, plus new maps are $100. I can call and get the advisor to download the turn by turn feature, which works on the HUD and google maps and waze doesn't.
