C7 frustrations
El Camino (first car - don't be mean), Blazer, Fiero (they were fun at the time), Caprice Classic LTZ, Silverado (x2), Hummer H3, Acadia, Caddy XT5, C5 Z06, and now a C7 GS.
This GS has been the biggest source of frustration I've ever experienced...
Dash repair, dash replacement, brake problems (replaced all 4 rotors under warranty - twice), torque converter problems - twice, and now a cracked wheel. Not counting normal maintenance, the car has been to the dealer for warranty work 7 times in under 2 years. I'm pretty much fed up with the car.
The dealer has been okay up until now. You'd think that will the problems I've had that they would be bending over backwards for me. But, they're not even close. It's ridiculous.
So this wheel... they have idea when I'll get a new one. They don't even know IF they can get one. So now the car sits in their lot (OUTSIDE) while we wait. And guess who gets to pay for a rental car for that unknown amount of time? Yours, truly. I got the dealer to pay for 3 days... unless we can get work something else out, I'll be renting a car for... ??days.... ??weeks?
I can't decide if I'm more angry at the car, the dealer, or both.
Anyone have contact information for the Regional GM guy that covers the Tampa/St. Pete. Florida area?

When a plastic insert broke on a step rail on a tundra which was factory installed (and on the window sticker), and the dealer found they couldn't replace the plastic part, couldn't even order one step rail, (Pair $1200 not including labor) they refused to repair even though the truck was still in the 3/36 warranty period. Using my snowball on top of the mountain equals avalanche to the dealer tool in my toolbox, I wrote to Mr. Toyoda in Tokyo. A week later a VP US Toyota in California calls me, confirms the issue, and authorized the dealer to install a new pair of step rails at no charge. The look on the Service Managers face when I showed up to get my truck fixed free: priceless.
i don't know from much about toyota quality on the decline, this was my first repair on 4 FJ Cruisers, 1 Avalon, 1 Prius, 1 RAV4 and 3 Tundras I've owned. What I do know is that you are still a valued customer to Toyota after the sale; not simply a patsy for having bought a bill o goods from Chevrolet. And since they stopped making real corvettes, i'll ride this one to the end of the warranty period then adios amigos.

In this case i don't know why the OP doesn't just buy a replica OEM wheel for $200 from Bob at house of wheels here, buy one of the many OEM wheels for sale on this forum or ebay, or invest in a forged wheel setup that won't crack like an OE replacement might. Just cancel your order, have them mount and balance the tire on your new rim, and move on. You are going to spend more in vehicle rental than just buying another wheel. It's not worth it just to have a replacement that may do the same thing again.

And, as to: "I don't understand the vilification of dealers here." To clarify, there are many, many legitimate complaints about dealers (including disService Departments); this is hardly limited to GM. I for one could supply a litany for GM, Ford, and Chrysler over the years, none of which your "explanation" of not covering what isn't warrantied applies to, I assure ya. All the best to the OP.
