Default C7 frustrations

I'm a GM guy through and through. My first car, and every car since, has been a GM car. A portion of the GM-only list:
El Camino (first car - don't be mean), Blazer, Fiero (they were fun at the time), Caprice Classic LTZ, Silverado (x2), Hummer H3, Acadia, Caddy XT5, C5 Z06, and now a C7 GS.

This GS has been the biggest source of frustration I've ever experienced...
Dash repair, dash replacement, brake problems (replaced all 4 rotors under warranty - twice), torque converter problems - twice, and now a cracked wheel. Not counting normal maintenance, the car has been to the dealer for warranty work 7 times in under 2 years. I'm pretty much fed up with the car.

The dealer has been okay up until now. You'd think that will the problems I've had that they would be bending over backwards for me. But, they're not even close. It's ridiculous.

So this wheel... they have idea when I'll get a new one. They don't even know IF they can get one. So now the car sits in their lot (OUTSIDE) while we wait. And guess who gets to pay for a rental car for that unknown amount of time? Yours, truly. I got the dealer to pay for 3 days... unless we can get work something else out, I'll be renting a car for... ??days.... ??weeks?

I can't decide if I'm more angry at the car, the dealer, or both.

Anyone have contact information for the Regional GM guy that covers the Tampa/St. Pete. Florida area?

Due to the Class Action Lawsuit on wheels, GM grunts may have been told to go dark on wheel repair/replacement. Try the snowball to the top of the mountain trick. if it rolls downhill, by the time it hits a dealer, it is an avalanche.

I've been through my car in ways the normal owner probably wouldn't and aside from engine and suspension it is fairly obvious where cost was cut in these cars especially in the interior and exterior. Like you I'm a GM guy all the way but, at this point It's only when it comes to engines. I have also had my dash replaced and notice other components wearing at an accelerated rate especially in the seats. Just the other day my idler pulley bolt (grade 10.5) for the super charger snapped on startup and no, the tensioner was not over extended. It just seems like all manufactures are cutting cost and the end consumer is ultimately paying for it. I've even seen quite a few quality complaints on the new supra which IIRC, Toyota used to be know for their quality.

To be fair, the new Supra is actually made by BMW... but yes, it does seem across the board with most if not all manufacturers, corners are being cut so that they can cram all of the modern tech, emissions and fuel economy requirements into a car for as low of a price as possible.

Totally forgot it's a BMW!

OP, I wouldn't let my Corvette sit outside on the dealers lot while I wait for a new wheel, go buy one on line at Midwest tire & wheel or OE wheels & get your car back on the street, the warranty issue may take months

You can also check the wheel collision center in Bath PA, PH#s 1-610-817-8792 or 1-800-292-7467 or go to their web site and check if they have a refurbished wheel for you Vette. usually about 1/2 price of new. They also repair wheels not that I would know if they could repair yours.

I was given a bunch,,,,,,,for posting such information on the forum
all publicly available information by simply typing Marry Barra email contact on Google. Don't be afraid of Queen Mary, she is YOUR beeyatch when you dropped $83 large in her toy store, least till the warranty runs out.

https://qz.com/217245/mary-barra-wan...see-a-problem/

When a plastic insert broke on a step rail on a tundra which was factory installed (and on the window sticker), and the dealer found they couldn't replace the plastic part, couldn't even order one step rail, (Pair $1200 not including labor) they refused to repair even though the truck was still in the 3/36 warranty period. Using my snowball on top of the mountain equals avalanche to the dealer tool in my toolbox, I wrote to Mr. Toyoda in Tokyo. A week later a VP US Toyota in California calls me, confirms the issue, and authorized the dealer to install a new pair of step rails at no charge. The look on the Service Managers face when I showed up to get my truck fixed free: priceless.

i don't know from much about toyota quality on the decline, this was my first repair on 4 FJ Cruisers, 1 Avalon, 1 Prius, 1 RAV4 and 3 Tundras I've owned. What I do know is that you are still a valued customer to Toyota after the sale; not simply a patsy for having bought a bill o goods from Chevrolet. And since they stopped making real corvettes, i'll ride this one to the end of the warranty period then adios amigos.

I don't understand the vilification of dealers here. Some could be better and could work harder at customer satisfaction, agreed, but you all understand that a service department only gets paid for APPROVED warranty work, right? Do you know who approves it? Not anyone in the service department. If GM isn't going to pay for the repair under warranty the service department's hands are tied. You wouldn't work for free, would you?

In this case i don't know why the OP doesn't just buy a replica OEM wheel for $200 from Bob at house of wheels here, buy one of the many OEM wheels for sale on this forum or ebay, or invest in a forged wheel setup that won't crack like an OE replacement might. Just cancel your order, have them mount and balance the tire on your new rim, and move on. You are going to spend more in vehicle rental than just buying another wheel. It's not worth it just to have a replacement that may do the same thing again.

I can fully understand your frustrations, and I am not minimizing the frustrations you are going through, but I think all the problems you have encountered are very much the exception and not the rule.

Excellent response. The blame here is not really on the dealer, but instead on GM for (1) contracting for wheels that are prone to bending/cracking and (2) on GM’s distribution system for not keeping wheels in inventory to assist customers that have the defective wheels. There really is no excuse for a customer to be without their car for weeks over a wheel issue.

I had to replace a rear wheel on my 17 GS with 8k miles at my expense. Ordered OEM wheel from Bob’s House of wheels for $475 shipped and he shipped it the next day. Dealership installed it at no charge.

Have you spoken with your attorney about your state's Lemon Law, if it has one???

And, as to: "I don't understand the vilification of dealers here." To clarify, there are many, many legitimate complaints about dealers (including disService Departments); this is hardly limited to GM. I for one could supply a litany for GM, Ford, and Chrysler over the years, none of which your "explanation" of not covering what isn't warrantied applies to, I assure ya. All the best to the OP.
