Sorry if this has been covered already but I didn’t see anything in the search
Picked up my 2018 GS last night from CarMax. First thing this morning, off to the local Chevy dealer for an inspection. When I asked for the VIS report i was told they couldn’t give it to me per a new gm rule regarding copy write.
I don't know about a "new" rule but can tell you they have absolutely no obligation to give anyone a vis printout. Many dealers would prefer to stay out of the situation between a customer they are not selling and another dealer.

If it is a rule, it must be fairly new. I bought my ‘14 not quite a year ago and not long after the purchase (not from my local dealer), I went to my local dealer and asked for the VIS Report. They had no problem giving me the report.
If all else fails, try one of the forum’s dealers. On a previous car, Ken Fichtner gave me a report and I did not buy the car from him.
The VIS info is readily available at Chevrolet.com. Simply register your car VIN there (under the "Owner's" tab) and you can see all the VIS info you want.
Then, reply... "I don't want a copy for myself; I'd never infringe on corporate copyright. I just want to see it. Heck, you can even hold it while I look over your shoulder!"

I don't think what is shown on the web site is the same as the VIS report. The web site shows several front axle services done on my car plus numerous brake system flushes (dealer never did any), 4x4 service and front and rear axle service at the same time. Some of those are impossible services to perform on a Corvette so I hope VIS is more accurate.

The Chevrolet website report only lists some of the maintenance items done to my car, not all of them. I think the GMVIS report from your dealer is still the way to go for a complete report
What is the VIS report? Sorry, I am sure this is a newbie question......
Basically a very detailed service record.
on a a side note the service rep I was talking to was willing to discuss it with me, just not willing to let me have it. Nothing but scheduled service and the pre-inspection performed.
When I was shopping for a used C5 my local dealer ran multiple VIS reports for me, probably 7 or 8 'til I finally bought one. What he wouldn't do is run a complete vehicle history as that was only available to the owner. (that was his explanation) .

they were working on my new vette at the time of telling me this.
It is about privacy of previous owners. I have had them show me on the computer screen, but they covered the previous owners name. They do not want you contacting and bugging previous owners. I agree with this, as I would not want phone calls from new buyers quizzing me on cars I have traded in, or sold a number of years ago, then was resold, etc. This is why there are services like Carfax, where history can be seen without disclosing previous owner names, though to me Carfax only benefits car dealers and insurance companies.....
