Just picked up a 2019 Stingray LT1 with the Z51 package. I hear that the first oil change with the dry sump should be done at 500 miles. Does anyone have any advice as to why? Apart from not putting the car on the track yet, are there any other "break in" recommendations? (I am keeping the RPMs low for now)

Looking forward to any input or advice

!

Thanks!

CONGRATS Welcome to Club 7
I believe the reason was because of the level of the oil being over full.
Overfull is worse than under a bit.Over full goes into the intake and plugs the air filter.
I myself always believed in dumping oil early. The fines from new parts during break in floating around and going threw new bearings ain't good.
I would ask them to put 9 quarts in to get you home. Then fill level properly.Directions are on the cap of the tank where you add the oil.Make sure you pick the right cap.Members have filled where the coolant goes by mistake.
ENJOY IT

Congrats! I picked up my 2019 C7 Z51 back in September and had the 500 mile oil change done right at 500 miles. There is something in the fittings or dry oil sump system that gets into the oil that can cause the oil to foam and that contamination needs to be removed.

Simply beautiful car! Welcome to the club. Having owned 8 Corvettes since 1972, I can tell you, without qualification , ⁹that the C7 Corvette is the best of the best.

I always heard the possibility of contaminants from new engine build reacting with the oil and possibly causing foaming, hence the replacement at 500 mi. and the normal schedule after that. Maybe something about an Assy sealant was the issue. I may be wrong. That 3000rpm redline will disappear when you hit 500 too, if I recall correctly.
No tracking before 1500 mi I think.
‘If you can check ur rear diff fluid level. Some have experienced low levels from the factory.
‘Personally I changed rear diff and manual trans fluids at around 2000, Just in case any manufacturing contaminants.
‘Get ya some rock guards for the back of those wheel wells and enjoy driving it.
Car is beautiful, congrats!

As I remember, GM instituted the 500 mile oil change due to the silicone seals causing foaming of the oil during that period. Afterwards, it's supposed to be fine

OP, The 500 mile oil change is free. Free is good. Enjoy the new C7, it's a great car and Z51 is a great choice.

Off to a great start here their BUB.First post ever on the Forum and wrong information.
Get your facts straight on Google Search..
FIXED:“We now encourage all owners to change their oil at 500 miles to remove possible contaminants created during the engine break-in process. And, as always, we encourage the use of Mobil 1 synthetic oil – which is a factory fill for all Z06 models, and Stingray Z51 models – and encourage owners to follow the engine break-in process detailed in the owner’s manual,” stated Monte Doran, spokesman for Chevrolet.
Guess this is a FIX DALE 3 Thread instead of welcoming a new owner.

Congrats on the Z51. I love my ‘17. I recommend the Spring Mountain experience if you can. You will learn a ton about your car and have a blast on the track.

Congrats and enjoy! Great color choice!

500 mile oil change is recommended, not a warranty requirement. I bought a used 2017 this spring with 900 miles and Criswell said, at 1,200 oil change, I was fine.

A 500 mile oil change is frankly just a good idea in general since everything is breaking in. Read the owner's manual, lots to learn in there including break in recommendations. Congrats and enjoy. You got the right color

Congrats, Good looking C7, enjoy it.
It's never a bad idea to change oil in any new car/truck at 500>1000 miles to get rid of any commitments etc.
