I’m purchasing my fifth C7 which will be a lightly used Z06. Everything is done and my original plan was to take my truck and rent a U-Haul trailer to take my trade up and bring the Z back. Trip is about 7 hours there and back in winter conditions.
I went to get a trailer this morning and they did not have it there even though I was told last night it was available. Went to another location and they had one but it was full of rust and corrosion and I did not feel safe pulling it.
After 2 weeks of waiting for the roads to clear up and making arrangements to get my car, I’m getting fed up. I have already given the dealer a $2k deposit and I’m not sure if they’ll refund it back to me. Is it too much to ask the dealer to cover 50% shipping cost which is roughly $600? Or should I just cover it myself and get the damn car? This whole ordeal is stressing me out!
Make sure the ZO6 will fit on a U Haul trailer. I know people who were taking Corvettes to Florida for the winter and the trailers were not wide enough even though they were car trailers.
The "deal" you cut with the seller is what you committed to. Why would they choose to fork over money for transport "after the sale?" That is unless they really want to get it out the door for some reason. You can ask, of course, but I know what I'd tell you.
Unfortunately, you have had a sample of the "fine print" in trailer rental. I had much the same experience many years ago; so, I bought a good quality all aluminum one for future use. If you are in the "Snow Belt" your options are limited this time of year and may stay so till who knows when. Were it me I'd contact one of the quality enclosed auto carriers and take care of it once and for all. No brokers or such BS or you'll likely regret it as everyone whom I know who has done so has.
Drive up there and get a trailer and pay the drop fee on it when you get back. I picked mine up in New Jersey and drove it home last year! Make the trip fun!
You can either have it shipped by Plycar or one of the other trustworthy car shippers or just drive it home yourself, I know that driving through the winter salt is no fun, but it would save you some money....I don't think that your dealer is gonna pony up any money to have the car shipped
How rusty and corroded is the one they offered you ? I can't believe they would rent you an unsafe trailer. Asking the dealer to foot the shipping is just plain silly. Get your money back (haha) and start all over again.
I'd either rent the Uhaul or set up the shipper. Personally I wouldn't ask for extra money once the deal was finalized. I prefer to drive home or trailer home a new car but I just bought a new Z06 from MacMulkin and am having that one shipped by Intercity since the holidays are here and we have other things going on. I wouldn't attempt the drive right now since the summer tires are really horrible in the cold temps, not to mention any possible snow!! Don't give up too easily on the car if it's the one you really want!!

It’s not fair to the dealer to expect them to pay for your shipping costs once the deal has been made. Just hire one of the trusted enclosed transport companies to get the car to you or find a trailer either at the dealership location or close to you and pull it back home.
I'd just bite the bullet and call a good transport company and get the car t you safe and sound.
I agree, why stress yourself so and take on the risk associated with trailering it yourself during winter. I assume if you can afford a Z06, you can afford to hire reliable auto shipper. If you had done this to start with your Z06 may already be in your garage.
He has a trade (I assume another C7) that he has to get to the dealer. I don't get some of the responses here.
Do a transport. It has to be bring you the Z06 and return your trade which will cost you more than you think, if the dealer will even accept that arrangement.
Rent the rusty trailer or find another one at maybe a construction company?

What don't you get, drive your trade up and check out your Z06 while there, fly home and arrange hauler to pickup deliver your Z06. It's done all the time.
Why screw with hauling a rented trailer and your new Z06 in the middle of winter, where you have snow, ice, hazardous in a car must less pulling an unfamiliar trailer. Then there's the salt/chemical trucks throwing crap everywhere.
Then there's 14 hours of driving so assume he will have to stop for the night.
And why would you rent a rusty old trailer and risk brakes failing, breaking an axle, or worst?
