Default Pucks

Just a question concerning the jacking pucks. Just trying to verify something. I have a set of pucks used on previous C5 Z. They will work in C7 however I have noticed that the slot they are inserted into has the tab that gets punched still in the aft part of the slot. Is this normal? I can install, but just a slight turn maybe 1/8 inch is all I can turn it. Don't recall that on the C5 that I had for 15 years.
TIA

Something may have crawled up there and died.. My C5 pucks work in my C7, without restriction. My Pucks are home made.. both single height and double height.

If you have full size hockey pucks, they should be positioned carefully so they don't overlap onto part of the plastic rocker panel area.
Mine have eyebolts to hold them in place, and the thin eyebolt allows the puck to sit slightly off-center and avoid hitting the plastic.
Your car may be slightly different...

The thing I like about my home made pucks is the fact that I can feel them seat in the rail pocket, then turn the actual puck while the eye bolt stays in place.. Buy turning the puck it closes the space between the puck and the rail making it tight to the rail and in the right spot.. without moving . I also made my pucks a light color so as to see them clearly while positioning the jack pad.

The pucks that I used on my C5 (BMW Jacking Pucks) work just fine on my C7.

Just my input. I purchased a GS'19 coupe, wasn't happy with it because it wasn't a vert, and traded it in on an identical GS'19 vert. That being said, the first one did have a chuck of metal still attached in the inside of frame where they(?) punched the tie-down hole in the frame. The remaining three tie-downs were free of any additional left overs and the pucks went in and rotated as required to install, and all 4 holes in the second car were free and clear as well.

Ok y'all, getting down on all 4s, I see exactly what I'm feeling. As suspected they did not completely punch out the tie down holes on all 4 slots. I guess I will have to use a Dremmel and cut them out so I can properly use the pucks.
Thanks

Default Pucks

For a 2019 GS is the conventional wisdom to buy the larger "double" pucks or are the single thickness pucks OK. ? Do most dealers that sell a fair number of Corvettes use these or do you have to remind them? ie for the 500 mile oil change!

This is an always iffy question with dealers. .Usually dealerships and service writers will tell you anything they think you want to hear. Dealerships are generally not known for their honesty...However many Dealerships work hard to reverse this stigma. Ive hear many bs stories over my years from dealers, salesman, service writers etc .that was bure bullshit.. I would not take their word, but if you challenge their word, it puts you in a bad light. Its a rock and a hard place position.. How you ask them is important.. I would ask, do you have a certified Corvette tech. I would ask to meet him... I would them ask what type of pucks he uses... if he is clueless, I would leave... a request to see the pucks would also be good. I know, I know … its a touchy situation... the alternative is to have faith in them.. but That in itself is scary. A good dealership , should put your concerns at rest … that BS about insurance regulations etc, is just a blow off. If buying an 80K car is contingent upon you inspecting their shop, they will assuredly allow you access.

Ive never had a dealership deny me access to their shop.. ( I should say ) I never bought a car from a dealership that denied me access to their shop... I want to see the facilities where my car will potentially be serviced. I want to meet the guy doing the work ( Corvette Tech )

Most, probably all, styles of puck need to be removed to use frame hooks. People with bolt on pucks typically carry the appropriate Allen wrench or whatever to remove them, just don't forget where you keep it in the car.
Unscrewing the pucks alongside the road at night in the rain would be a PITA but is do-able. If the car has sunk into snow/mud/sand, perhaps impossible.
I had that happen with our C5, no pucks installed but neither I nor the tow driver could get at the frame slots to install his frame hooks. I don't recall what he connected his strap around to pull me out, but I'm sure it wasn't GM-approved. Fortunately, no damage.
That's a good reason to check if your car has the GM tow hook receivers front & rear, and get the hook to store in the trunk.
