I still have the original tires on my 2000 Corvette convertible. I don't drive it much and garaged. 5K original miles.

Please replace those the next time you remove it from the garage. Those tires are about 15 years beyond the expiration date. Enjoy your garage sculpture.

Time is just as important as miles. If you drive, that is.

p.s. Just what does original miles mean? It's a term bandied about, but vague. Does it mean the original engine? Does it mean the ODO hasn't been rolled back?

Very good advice
Tires will dry rot. When they fail it is at a speed and manner you may have hard time to recover from?
Many tire shops will not fix or remount tires over 6 years old. It is not a function of mileage or tread wear.

Resurrected thread from 2019 that doesn't even address jb193's question.

I think many, many folks here jump on and comment on a topic without checking the original post date. Sometimes it is relevant to do so... I confess, it's happened to me a couple of times.

That's a term I have always wondered as well and I always interpreted it from the days when odometers would only go up to 99,999.9, so if you saw a picture of the odometer in a for sale ad and it showed 5000 miles, the ad would say original miles so that you didn't think that it actually had 105,000 or 205,000 miles. If that's the case, then it's an obsolete term if being used on any car built in the last few decades, since they all have odometers that go to 999,999 (and who knows, some might actually show 1,000,000 and beyond)
