So a buddy of mine is possibly looking to get a corvette, most likely a C5 or C6. I've had a C4, 5, 6, and now a 7 for a little over a year. None of my previous cars to the C7 had mag ride. For those of you that had previous corvettes to the C7 with the mag ride option, was it worth it? Is it something he should look for, or is the C7 with mag ride just worlds better?
It’s a great system. I had a 2003 with magnetic, and it really is like having two cars. Shockingly cushy ride when you want it. And instantly firms up with a flick of that ****.
They’ve refined the system quite a bit since it was first available in 2003. I’ve driven all kinds. Even the FX3 equipped “selective ride” C4s...which never seemed to have a sweet spot. Those were either too floaty or too stiff. But when magnetic showed up for the C5, it was a quantum leap for active suspension systems. And other manufacturers (I think Ferrari quickly adopted it) have started using it along with other vehicles made by GM.
My current C7 has Mag Ride and I really like it. My previous C6 did not and the difference is pretty significant!

Agree 100%! If you go C7 I honestly don't know why you wouldn't have it. It may be a bit too stiff for some perhaps. I usually leave mine on the touring setting. I haven't played with the other settings too much, and its a daily driver that won't be tracked.
So 2003 is the first year to have mag ride? Did 2002 and earlier have selective ride?
Yes and yes. On the C5, you can tell the difference between the two with the ****. The electric actuator controlled system has three (tour/sport/perf) settings with the ****. The electromagnetic controlled system only has two (tour/sport) settings.
