Default Windrestrictor question

I just purchased an etched , lighted Windrestrictor and it should arrive in a couple of weeks. I use to have a Cadillac XLR with a lighted Windrestrictor, but back then, you hardwired it to the running light with the tail light. I'm not crazy about having to flip the switch on the new one on and off, and then recharge the battery every so often. Has anyone hardwired one of these to a C7? If so, details please and thanks for your help.

I don't have one in my C7. The turbulence is not as bad as it was in my C6. Mine had the 60th Anniversary logo with red LED's. I hard wired it into the brake lights so it was not on constantly and it acted as an additional brake light at night.

Mine is not lit but it should not be hard, if 12 switched you could use the 12V plug in the console... I think you would want some kind of switch to turn it on or off though.. Should be an easy mod...

I love mine except the glare at night is really bad, when you look in the rear view mirror and see the car in front of you it freaks you out the first couple of times...

Maybe something like this??

Hey Rick,

I really hate to rain on our parade - maybe it won't bother you like it did me, but I recently bought a car with a custom etched, lighted Windrestrictor that the previous owner had installed. For me - the glare from oncoming traffic was abysmal. I finally figured out that oncoming traffic headlights were reflecting off the windrestrictor and bouncing into my rear view mirror. It was incredibly distracting and even cause me to flinch a few times because it felt like I was about to get hit. I lived with it for a couple of weeks and then finally pulled it off there. Right now, I've got a $600 piece of fancy plexy hanging from a shelf in the garage. It looked kinda cool in the car with it lit up and all - but the annoyance was more than I could stand.

I really do hope it works for you. Maybe your torso will be higher or lower than mine and you won't get the glare.

I've been riding around with the top down this past weekend and the wind in the convertible isn't bothersome at all. In fact, I thought it was rather pleasant in there without that device installed.

Incidentally - I'm over in Paulding County - just West of Acworth a few miles.

I also had one, the glare from the lights was terrible.
I was so happy once I removed it.

I got in contact with Windrestrictor and the said that they HIGHLY RECOMMENDED not hard wiring it to the taillights. After trying to
figure out a way to do this on my own, I saw that the complexity of the moving parts for putting the top up and down is a problem. Basically the hard wire could easily get pinched or entirely cut.

Back to the battery box for now.

This simple solution may be the best, particularly as the lighted, etched option is more for show than for use while driving, as some posts above suggest.

I was thinking about getting one for my 19 GS Coupe. I have watched the videos on how to install it but I'm not real comfortable with wiring all the way to the back of the car. A buddy of mine had a 2013 60th Anniversary convertible and he had his wired via the power outlet. He could plug it in as wanted. That is one of the options available on the Windrestrictor web site. Still not convinced I want one but I am just throwing it out there. Less dust brake pads will take priority.
