I have three keyfobs for my current car. If I sold it, which I don't intend to do, I would turn over the two original keyfobs to the new owner. I actually have three because one of the originals was misplaced and later found.
I am in the process of getting a new Z06 delivered to me. Could I have the key portion of the extra fob recut for the new car? Or what procedure would I go through to get the old FOB to work with my new car as a spare. Thanks for you input.
I'm presuming I would have to purchase new key and have it cut to match the VIN and then reprogram the FOB portion to work with the new car.

This exactly. The key cutting would not require a VIN, it did not when I had an extra key cut.

Unless all C7 keys are alike, they would need the VIN or some other way to tell what pattern to cut the new key.
In my case, I ordered the key itself through our local dealer (discounted price), they needed my VIN so GM would cut the key properly.
That was several years ago, perhaps it is more common now for dealers or locksmiths to have the proper tool to cut that weird key, using an original for the pattern.

this ......
You can program the fob to the new car .... and then supply the VIN and proof off ownership to the parts counter and they will cut the key
The Key is useless to anyone but the car owner, the fob may be useful if it is the correct fob. There are currently 8 fobs, depending which year your car is and which type of car you have (auto vert, man vert, auto coupe, and man coupe).
Eboggs has a great chart with part #s (which I will attempt find if he doesn't post it before I find it).
