do you know how the mag ride in your corvette really works...or at least the science behind it? Do you know the first GM car to have mag ride- it was NOT the corvette.
I can say one thing the ride on my 06 with mag ride was WAY better than my husbands 16 BASE stingray (even after I added the z51 sway bars to it). I could go run autocross with the 06 and drive home in comfort. That to me was worth it all.
Now the rest of the 16 was superior to my 06......................
But it doesn't explain why mine is leaking oil ...
They all will leak given enough time, the shocks start getting a oily film on them, usually within a year it's a full leak, had this happen to several Escalade's, I guess that's how you know it's trade in time. They usually will not replace under warranty for just a oily film, then your warranty is over and they telll you the shock now need to be replaced
As someone who dailys and tracks their C7 the mag-ride system is a god send. It is the best of both worlds - smooth & soft for commute into work, but stiff & firm for cornering on the track with just a twist of the ****. The system is downright amazing... thus I consider it a must have for any C7 owner. I sold my previous car (a Nissan 350Z) because its stiff suspension beat you up too much on the street.

There is a GM bulletin with drawings that explains “acceptable “ leakage or required replacement.
Our local dealer mentioned I had some leakers and suggested I have the bad ones replaced while under BTB warranty because extended warranties don’t cover mag ride shocks. Actually, the current GM Platinum extended warranty (Chevrolet Protection Plan) does cover them, the popular plan from Ally does not.
He replaced all 4 under BTB, two were really bad and two were marginal, they didn’t want me having to come back in a few months. A good Tech at a good dealership.

When I bought my GS from a dealer, I was told the Ally plan was just as good as the GMAC plan I had on my C5 (my C6 was from a private party). And that it was BTB. I shoulda known a 7 year, 70,000 mile warranty plan at that price had some hitches.

As you've already figured out, none of the extended warranties are as good as the original BTB. But if you got the top-level Ally plan, IIRC it lags the GM plan in only a couple of areas-
Ally does not cover Mag Ride shocks, and pays a discounted rate to the shop for parts & labor.
The Ally plan our dealer would have sold me was cheaper than GM; if you don't have Mag Ride or only have to replace one of the shocks during your time, than you're money ahead.
See, the glass is half-Full instead of half-empty.
Still don't want to pay the $350 to upgrade the mag ride software. They should do this for free.
It is completely optional and not a necessary update. Why should an extra optional software update be free? I’m confused. Software engineers worked on this. There was tons of track time while they tuned the ZR1 to perfect this update and they should give away what they spent r/d on? Would you work for free?
That said I paid the 350 last year and it was worth every penny.

It's just adjusting/optimizing the 16 different settings that the car currently does with the non-upgraded MRC. They were doing this for the ZR1 anyway- you think that's worth $350? I personally don't. It's not necessary at all, true, but why not optimize the MRC prior to release? It's free for newer C7's.

You dont think this R&D should have been done beforehand?
What are you talking about? They did initial r/d for the mrc system for the c7/z06. Which is what our cars had at launch. That was paid for yes initially. They spent Additional r/d time to improve the system while tuning the zr1. This extra additional r/d time is what your paying for. Understand now?

Dude, why are you coming off triggered here? There's a difference in opinion in how GM went about the MRC software, is all.
