Don't know who told you that you needed to remove the rear bumper but they're wrong

Removing the battery is a PITA. I’ll never understand why the engineers didn’t make the compartment 1” bigger on all sides of the battery. It fits so tightly down inside the compartment, it’s almost impossible to get your hands onto the battery with enough purchase to be able to lift it out. Considering these cars chew through batteries, this would have been a welcome consideration (and there’s plenty of room for them to have done so).

I’d recommend that you go to the auto parts store and buy a battery strap that attaches to the posts. These are under $10 and makes removal quite a bit easier.

I'll try and clarify what i wanna do , I want to install a 2 wire plug above the license plate so that i acn plug in my battery charger without having to run the cord through a window or hatch , so to accomplish that i need to get to the battery to attach the wires and the run the cable down to the license plate area . So would i have to remove the bumper or could i access through the hatch area ?

I don't quite understand why the GM engineers didn't design access to the battery as they did the C6Z. The C6Z at least had a door you could open to wrestle out the battery with a strap or couple of vice grips. Certainly wasn't any chance of ripping the carpet in the C6Z.

Not sure why you do not want to just plug it in to the outlet in the rear hatch and just close the hatch.

Just use the use the jack in the right rear and close the hatch. I have been doing it for over 4 years with no damage to the paint or hatch.

To do what you want, you could remove the rear interior trim panel, then drill a hole thru the rear tub, and then you would need to try to fish the wire thru the hole and hope you can find it dangling out between the bumper cover and the tub, at the bottom of the cover. Otherwise you would need to pull the bumper cover off so that you can get the wire to the license plate area to mount a connector.

The other charging option is to connect at the underhood fuse panel, there is a 12V battery stud between the fuse panel and the coolant tank. Somebody else did this, and ran the wires (with an in-line fuse located at the 12V stud) to a connector they mounted in the front grill. The connector was a magnetic type, that just pulls apart if the wire is pulled.

Running the plug in over the weatherstripping will not harm it. But good luck if you decide to go another route to do what you want done.
