I have a 2014 Z51 M7 with 19K on it. Every now and then when I shift from it won't engage. I have to push back forward a little and then it will pull into gear. Could I have a faulty shift lever linkage or do you think the problem could be inside the transmission such as a synchronizer?

If you’re shifting from 1st to 2nd it might just be the skip shift, which is normal.
It happens when you are below 19mph and the car is warmed up. It locks out 2nd gear and wants you to skip to 4th. Hence, skip shift. Another way to get rid of it is if you happen to have HP Tuners. Easy to disable with that.
google this: CAGS Skip Shift Eliminator for 2014-2019 Corvette
Super cheap and easy to install if you have the means to get under your car. I had the same problem with 1st to 2nd occasionally, not anymore though.
The skip shift override was the first thing that I installed on my C5 M6 years ago, and same with my M7 when I got it last fall. My indie mechanic installed it for 30 bucks labour...best investment you'll every make, believe me!
You don’t need a skip shift eliminator, just stop short shifting it when going from 1st to 2nd. It will be funnier to drive too! Spin 1st gear up to at least 3500 rpm before grabbing 2nd.

A lot of the time when it happens, i'm in town and driving in traffic.

In that case just put it to 2nd immediately or just rev a bit and put to 2nd, its easy to skip that stuff. Did you notice you get a message about 1-4 skip shift when that happens

Same thing happened to me under those conditions. So I got the CAGS and no more problems. Super easy to install if you are comfortable putting your car on jack stands or ramps.
When it happens a message should appear in the HUD and/or DIC. If you don't have the HUD the message may be so brief you don't see it.
If I wanted a car that told me when to shift I would have gotten an automatic!
I've seen a message pop up on the cluster. But that's the problem with riding in bumper to bumper traffic, by the time I look down is half a second before it disappeared. I've never been able to read it before it was gone. I have a four post lift so getting under the car isn't difficult. Looks like it will be my first mod.
