Default Not the warble

Have got an issue similar to what is described as the warble, but it’s not.
It’s coming from the right side of the engine compartment and it’s sounds like a rattle. Hear it when I just give it light gas. Like a piece of tin that’s rattling. Any ideas?

Does it have to be in motion to hear it? If not, open the hood and listen while someone else gives "...it the gas." You may, at the least, be able to localize it to some extent.

If it happens at 30-40 mph with slight acceleration it could be the tensioner for the serpentine belt. See if there is any oil residue on the damping cylinder. A slight vibration from the V8-V4 shift can cause the seal on the damping cylinder to leak and when the oil is gone there is no cushion for the spring and parts inside of it. That could be the rattle you hear.

It was discussed on here quite a bit a while back and was the source of my noise. Replacement of the part and the addition of a Range Device to prevent the change to V4 solved it for me.

Here is a pic from a previous discussion showing the culprit.

Tried that. It does seem like it needs to be in motion I guess. Didn’t hear anything.

Sounds like that could be the issue. I did notice a link between when it shifted from V8 to V4 and back.
What was the approximate cost for you to get it fixed?

The part was about $65 from Rockauto and my extended warranty has $100 deductible so I swapped it myself. Very easy. It was a good excuse to buy the race ramps so instead of spending a lot on those I tell myself I saved thirty five bucks.

Funny thing is, the noise was there for quite a while before my old ears heard it. At least that's what my GF says. When it finally got loud and frequent enough for me to hear I stuck to driving in manual mode (A6) using the paddle shifters so it never went into V4.

Search around on here and you will find plenty of threads about it. Or I can dig them up for you later today if you want. There are a couple TSBs about the problem. Some of the supercharged cars required replacement of the belt also but the belt on my Stingray was as good as new so I just changed the tensioner assembly. No problems or racket since.

No problem. Thank you. I believe that to be the issue.
Did you install the AFM Disabler as well, or did the issue stop and never return without it?

I like the part of" my old ears". My wife says I don't hear her but, I love the sound of my car with my foot stuffed to the floor!

I ordered the Range AFM disabler at the same time I ordered the tensioner part and plugged it in as soon as it got here. I don't watch my gas mileage all that close but i guess it has dropped slightly.

My car sits for 2-3 weeks at a time without the battery tender plugged in and I have never had a problem, so if you read on here about the Range draining the battery you can rest assured they have the problem fixed with the latest models. The only problem with the Range gizmo is a couple times I have kicked it with my foot reaching for the parking brake pedal that isn't there. My ears aren't the only thing failing, it seems.

Gotcha! Thank you! I think that covers what I needed! 👍
