Default New owner! And a (major?) problem

I finally got my dream car, it's a 2016 Stingray with the Z51 package, magnetic shocks, M7 trans. Snap your head back quick, its exactly as I imagined, better even. Most exhilarating drive I've ever experienced.

Now the bad news, I bought it Saturday night about 130 miles from where I live. I didn't get home until midnight, still excited but exhausted. Sunday I decided to take it for a good spirited run with the top off. I started noticing that it was idling really rough, almost want to go dead, and with the top off and radio off, my wife pointed out a slight clicking/tapping sound. Kept driving, then I get a CEL, check rear axle, check stabilitrak. Contacted onstar to run a quick diagnostic, and they tell me it's having an emissions issue. I go by Autozone and they run the codes, comes back as a misfire on cylinder #5. I change out the sparkplug, but no difference. I took it to my local dealer this morning and drop it off. They keep it all day, finally got a call at 5:58 saying they don't know what's wrong, and will have to keep it a few more days. He said they swapped ignition coils, plug wires, and a few other things and no change in codes, so they think it's internal. It's got 59,400 miles, so I'm barely under warranty.

I guess I just need some cheering up, I was hoping it was nothing more than a bad fuel injector or something external. The thought of them having to tear down the engine scares me. Anyway, to a pic to prove it happened...

thanks guys. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. It had every option I wanted, manual trans, Z51, mag suspension, red leather seats, red calipers...

A really beautiful car, love the wheels. Even if it is something internal to the engine, hopefully it will be a relative easy fix. And just think, once fixed, you'll be able to get behind the wheel and have a great time cruising.

It's a 2016 with nearly 60,000 miles, and it's still under warranty? Wow!

I guess I'd better read my owner's manual (I have a 2017 Z06 with only 6,600 miles). Maybe I've got more coverage than I thought (I assumed 3 years/36,000 miles). Never really checked (hadn't needed to).

Regardless, as others have said, that's one good-looking Corvette!

I had a misfire condition in my ‘15 Z51 in the past. Wound up just being an ignition module for that cylinder. Easy fix. Hoping yours will be the same.

I think lots of extended warranties are sold because people don't know or understand the actual warranty that came with the car.

To the OP: Best of luck

thanks! I had declined the extended warranty, now I'm kicking myself! LOL

It's not the first time that I had a major warranty issue happen right before the warranty expired. Fortunately, I've never had one come up afterwards.

The service agent told me that they've swapped several things, but it's looking internal. My thought is that it can't be too bad, because it runs spectacular above idle, and has full power. I think it's a lifter, maybe a broken or weak valve spring or something on top of the engine in the head. That tapping sound is rather constant, and it doesn't seem to speed up as the engine revs, which is weird to me.... Hopefully I'll get it back today or sometime this week.

Powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles....

It doesnt speed up as the engine revs? Are you sure? Hard to imagine what it could be in that case.

it doesn't seem like it. it seems to be consistently constant. I mean at idle of 750 or whatever it sounds to be tapping at the same speed than if I'm up around 2000 or more. Once the engine revs past that you can't really hear anything but the revving itself. Odd, I know, you'd think at twice the engine speed, it would be twice as fast tapping. Maybe that's why the dealership is having such a hard time diagnosing it

It's probably not too late to get the extended warranty from GM , someone should be able to post a link to the prefered seller of such in the forum.
