Default Tuning/Reprogramming limits

Before I start, I'm not very knowledgeable in the subject, so don't beat me up too bad.

I was told by a performance shop that our motors (base) can be tuned WITHOUT any new parts to add hundreds of HP and equivalent torque. Something about wiping the computer clean and then reprogramming. Does this make any sense?

Hmm...I'm not even sure our Z06s and ZR1s can pull off "hundreds of HP" on tune. For NA, in my example, I only gained 27HP and that was with a CAI + tune.

nope, sounds kinda like a pop up ad honestly! You can definitely pick up some up some hp with a tune, but 30 to 40 maybe....not hundreds

Not true, some HP can be gained sure. Not those numbers.

GM gives it a nice fat tune, to be on the safe side always. Rich is safe, lean is not. They can lean it out and get some decent gains.

Find a new tuner, that guy or gal will definitely blow up your motor for you...

I can't answer the question directly, but keep in mind:

Do a tune; Void a warranty.

There is no tune in the world that is going to add hundreds of HP without some serious upgrades. Hell, even a tuned shot of nitrous will give you 100HP briefly. It takes a supercharger (Z06/ZR1) or twin turbo to get hundreds more. Even staying N/A you need to replace heads, intake, cams, pistons, fuel delivery, exhaust, etc., then get a good tune on a dyno and maybe get 100HP more?! May as well get a Z06 from the start.

shakinrock;

A list of enhancements claimed by Diablosport, tuning systems:

"Pre-loaded performance tunes could add up to 30 HP & 20ft.-lbs of torque over stock to your corvette."

Adjustable Parameters:

* Active fuel management
* Cooling fan control
* Disable skip shift
* Drive/neutral idle RPM adjustment
* Fuel rich/lean adjustment vs RPM
* Gear ratio
* Rev limiter
* Speed limiter
* Throttle booster
* Timing advance/retard vs RPM
* Tire size

(Source Diablosport web sight.)

Notes: I purchased a Diablo intune for my old 2006 C6 3lt auto.
However, my 2/2016 is completely stock.

Many thanks,

Ray

No tune will gain that much HP.

There is no such thing as a tuner wiping the computer clean as tuning tools don't have access to any of the control software and don't have the ability to wipe any of it. Tuning tools only have access to certain tables that are also accessible by the software. Changing the values in the tables permits them to affect engine performance the same way tuners used to do by setting ignition timing, changing distributor advance curves, selecting carburetor jets, and throttle opening settings. The gains that can be made that way are in the range of 20 to 30 HP just as tweaking of jets, timing and air flow used to provide similar gains.
