I picked up my new (to me) ‘17 Z06 yesterday, did 6 hours of a 17 hour drive home last night, and I’m noticing that a throttle blip directly off idle is rough for the first 200-300 RPMs. Is that expected? I still have a couple months of warranty left, so I’m not too worried about it, but I’ve not driven a Z06 before yesterday, so this is new to me. I’ll add a video when I get home tonight to show what I’m talking about.
In the attached video, I blipped the throttle at :03, and the resulting chug and recovery was the response. I was thinking this might be normal, but it did the same thing when rev-matching on a drive this evening, so something is wonky. Time to see if I can get it in the dealership service center.
The LT4 has a rough idle, which is well known, but I’ve not experienced the 200-300rph blip that you described. Perhaps the ECM is still learning your driving habits. There are many after-market TBs available that will help with the throttle lag, but I’d get it looked at under warranty first before adding any mods.
I just noticed that you said “new to me”. So scratch the ECU theory as it probably would have already calibrated the air/fuel, timing, etc. It could have been a bad tank of gas too...
Did the previous owner have a mods on it? TB, tuning, etc.,
Just went out to get some video, and it seems to be running smoother now. I bought it w/ 2800 miles on it (2800 miles in 3 years), so maybe it hadn't been driven in a long time and just needed to reset. Or if it's going to crap out on me, I hope it does it in the next 30 days while I still have warranty.
An unrelated question (but don't want to clutter up the board with my pedantic questions) - has anyone seen two small water/oil puddles under their car (see picture), about halfway back, looks to be about centered side-to-side? The picture doesn't show it well, but the darker parts in the middle look like an oil of some sort, but it's not thick enough to be motor oil. It may be AC condensate, but coming from two different areas, and with dark oily stuff in it?
Agreed, Avanti, I just put 1300 miles on it getting it home. What with COVID-19, I don't have any place I need to go, but I'll do some joyrides if the rain will let up.
The water spots are probably from the exhaust. Condensation, along with soot, can build-up and drain between at the exhaust clamps. My Z06 will occasionally do this, and my clamps could not get any tighter. I know this because I replaced it... however, I still noticed the same with the OEM set-up. If you take a peek under there with a flashlight, you’ll probably see the source. If this is the case, then there’s nothing to worry about. Nonetheless, you still could try tightening the clamps, which can come loose from vibration, as well as expansion and contraction from exhaust heat.
OK, it's definitely not OK. In the attached video, I blipped the throttle at :03, and the resulting chug and recovery was the response. I was thinking this might be normal, but it did the same thing when rev-matching on a drive this evening, so something is wonky. Time to see if I can get it in the dealership service center.

This looks like exhaust soot/water leaking out a little from the xpipe/exhaust connections. That's fairly common. I'll take a pic of under the car to show and confirm (hang on)
Edit:
You can see the black spots on my connections here..
I'd take the whole air intake assembly off as well....clean that baby out. Get some specific cleaning spray for the MAF too.
I don't have a Z06 but I'm assuming the intake plumbing is the same or very similar.
Removing the intake isn't hard at all. I'd say it's a quarter-of-a-beer worth of time and difficulty.
LOTS of YouTube videos on people removing it. Look up "carguy11", "SonsOfSpeed"...there are several other real good channels. Just can't think of them.
Thanks, guys, I'll do some cleaning this evening if I can find an auto parts store that is open.
Just in case you missed it in earlier post, use ONLY a MAF specified cleaner. DO NOT USE carb/brake cleaner & make sure car is off & not even in accessory mode (don't want the wires inside powered). Remove the MAF to allow access to the wires inside & any connections. Good for you taking this task on!
