Quick question regarding MGW shifter installation. I have read the various instructions that have been posted (which are great by the way). Just wondering if I need to unhook the battery before I start since there are several electrical connections to unhook. Thanks!
Good luck with the install. I also installed the MGW Flat Stick Shifter. It looked tremendous but the leverage point and the small lighter ball caused more notchiness than I preferred. But, more significantly, as others had warned, I found that it caused 4-5 shifts to wind up in 7th way, way too often. Even after experimenting and finding the optimum grip point and force vector it would still pop into 7th too often. On the recommendation of a friend, I called MGW and for a very reasonable price they sent out their top piece and shaft for their Short Throw Shifter which is a simple 4 bolt install on top of the MGW base piece. I then put on a larger heavier ball and the over notchiness is pretty much gone and 4-5 shift now goes into 5th every time. The Short Throw Shifter throw is actually shorter and tighter than the flat stick as well.
Anyway, if you find a problem evolves with the flat stick, consider the other MGW solution. All-in-all this is now one of the best shifter units I’ve ever had in any car.
No. Nothing is on unless you turn on the ignition. It’s a. Easy install and the hardest part for me was unplugging the plug at the 12v plug next to the shifter. I couldn’t see the release without my glasses. The rest was easy.
