I saw a link in another post a few days ago but can't find that post now. Tried search & no luck (why does all MYs come up when I type C7). Anyhow about to order APISUSA shift **** + boot & want to know how to remove BOOT without taking off console. Thanks folks. Sorry to have to start a thread but maybe someone else needs this info.

I believe you have to remove the console. You can remove just the shifter **** by twisting the chrome ring and sliding the boot down. I did a MGW shifter replacement on my19 GS and the console came off in 5 minutes of work.

Thanks but the post I referenced told how just the boot could be removed (after removing ****) with trim tools to release 4 tabs on sides of boot. I’ve done 2 MGWs also.
Thanks jimmbbo for the link. I decided even if the boot can be removed using plastic trim tool to compress the 4 tabs that lock it in, lifting the console just enough to squeeze those tabs by hand will be easiest. Especially since I've done that a couple of times installing MGW shifters. Just ordered my APSISUSA Kalahari boot/shift ****. Thanks!

Am troubleshooting a buzzing gearshift **** and I tried removing the ring/collar by turning it CCW and presssing down as in the video.. no joy, and was concerned about bending it...
With downward pressure on the boot neck I inadvertently pushed the boot off the collar and still could not twist the collar to get it to slide down...
Reinstalled the leather on the collar pending more information...
Next step may be to use channel locks with tape cushions to "encourage" the collar to twist off but want to be sure I'm not missing something.

There’s a pin (very tiny) on the collar that rides in a tiny cutout on the shifter shaft which holds the collar in place. You usually have to SLIGHTLY raise the collar up, then while holding it up rotate CCW. This will get it into the track since the pin is below the lip of the track. I use a micro fiber towel around the ring to turn it. Start with the vise grips very lightly holding & increase slowly if not turning. You don’t want to crush the collar. First time is hardest & put touch of oil/grease in track for (next) time. Good luck-mine is’19 M7 also.👍
You don't have to remove console. I just did ti. go to u tube they do play by play it was easy
Searched a bunch & can only find A8 boot removal which only requires popping out the boot surround inside the chrome trim & turning it over. M7 doesn't pop out from above (different surround trim). You have to use trim tool to get down beside & under actual boot to location of 4 plastic tabs which release the boot from it's mounting base (plastic). I tried finding those 4 tabs & it was impossible FOR ME. I am afraid I will break one or more tabs off & create a problem so will just remove top of console & flip it over to get unfettered access to the 4 tabs/mounting box. Unless you have a link to a M7 removal I'll just go this way which really doesn't take long & I won't be blindly trying to pry those tabs loose. Thanks tho!

I know on installing MGW shifter it is shipped with nuts/locking washer screwed on the base of **** shaft & they WARN those have to be removed & done in different location/sequence when installing or they loosen over time & cause noise. They just ship that way so they don't get lost. I realize you have a '19 (me too/Z06) & haven't removed & replaced with aftermarket shifter but perhaps factory failed to fully tighten these mounting nuts & hardware & that's where the noise is. I'm interested so let me (us) know if you get **** off & if you locate origin of "buzz" noise. Good luck!

I see all the "It's Easy" and thought you would be best looking at the PDF of my MGW install! It also covers briefly my cue ball **** install on my 2014 C7 and the horror story of taking the **** off my Grand Sport!
On the Grand Sport because of the issues I had with the Chrome ring on my 2014 I was so pleased the chrome ring turned easily. Found out why, the staple that holds the boot to the ring came lose! Others have had that issue as well. The proper fix is taking the console apart and trying to get it stapled back.
But that was a minor issue compared to the next issue. The screw in the **** would not budge. "Should have heated the screw with a hot soldering iron," thought about it because I knew GM used Loctite but didn't. Would not budge and the Allen is very small and was slipping. So bought something I heard about but never used, it's called "Screw Grab." It's a friction past that is claimed to increase friction 8 fold. It "appeared to work!" The screw turned about 45 degrees then the head came off! Had to drill it out, not easy!
Later decided to install the MGW flat stick shifter. There are a few tricks to get the console off and my How To PDF covers those. Worth a read! http://netwelding.com/MGW_Shifter.pdf
PS: Forget using the Forum Search! Use google and if you want stuff from the forum just include CorvetteForum in the search words. Not really needed as google will find it and show corvetteforum stuff! Heck I have ~160 pages on my website I manage myself. I occasionally forget where I put something but know it's there. Google finds it very quickly. If I add something, google finds it within a day! They have some powerful spiders!
^^^^Thanks for trying Jerry but the question was how to remove the BOOT for M7 without removing console. I've done 2 MGW shifters & have no problem doing the **** or console. Just thought I had seen on here about removing M7 boot by inserting a trim tool in alongside of boot to release 4 tabs that hold it to base. See post #12 where I searched but only found A8 boot removal which is NOT same as M7.

Yep, looked myself when the chrome ring on my boot came lose fro the boot. You'll find a number saying that happened. The solution starts with removing the console! Also be careful removing the screw as they use a form of Locktite BUT not the brand- perhaps from China!
I also had a problem removing the side oil drain plug on my Grand Sport. I do all my own oil changes and brought my 1/2 inch drive racket and 6 point socket as that was what was required on my 2014 Z51. BUT the Grand Sport oil cooler is longer and there is no room for a socket or extension. Tried a 12 point box wrench but it was just rounding the corners of the hex. An open end wrench was worse!
Had to improvise and put the 6 point socket on and used a large plumbing pipe wrench on the outside of the socket! That worked! The Loctite type product was a brown color, perhaps a bad batch! Later bought a 6 point box wench, not easy to find!

You can remove the boot w/o removing the console.
Forum member Theta wrote a procedure 4/2/2014 : How-To: Install Short Shifter / Replace Stock Shifter
It is a Stickey in the C7 Tech / Performance topic.
The four clips you refer to are locator clips. There are 3 small beveled tabs on each side and 2 on each end
that actually hold the boot to the console.

I was going to trouble shoot my buzzing **** but I just took it to the dealer since it only has 700 miles on it. Their ordering a new shift ****. So far the buzzing shift **** is my only complaint about the car.
