Default DSC Module vs MRC Software Update

Probably many discussions & opinions. '17 Z06. Not factoring in prices, which suspension option will give you the best all around ride, comfort & performance? Not planning on tracking the car. So many contradicting opinions & results.

I don't have a Z but on my Z51 the DSC gave me the street ride I was looking for. Much better the paying for the expensive GM software upgrade.

One thing I will say is that DSC seems to not support the older units. They only update the newer ones. Also, many of the old calibration files I liked were wiped from their web site. So if you don't have a copy you will have to either hope someone has it or you can make it yourself. But being a newbie it is hard. I love the "plush" file but they pulled it from their web site.

Look for a used one in the BST forum. Get the one that serves the year car you have. The old units are for the older cars only.

DSC gives you the capability to alter the suspension programming to improve things like ride, acceleration or turning. To get that adjustability you will shell out about $1200 plus you will have to become familiar with how to program the unit and how to determine what you want to program into the unit. In other words if you want anything besides the preset settings that DSC provides you need to have some knowledge of how to tune a suspension. I think tuning a suspension is vastly more difficult that tuning an engine which doesn't have a lot of variables to change.

With the GM update you are getting what Jim Mero through lots of testing decided was the best selection of calibrations for general usage in the C7 Corvette. He went through all of the settings and chose ones that would be safe, improve the ride and improve the handling. That was based on his extensive knowledge of the platform and extensive proving ground/road/track testing. You get that for $350.

Depending on what you are planning on doing one is a better deal than the other. For me I decided the GM update would be fine for my 2015 Z06 that I track extensively. I did the upgrade when it first became available and have been perfectly satisfied. I did have the advantage of having somebody loan me the use of their brand new DSC unit for a track weekend so did have the ability to compare results between the DSC preset settings and the GM Upgrade.
