Can anyone recommend a place have my windows tinted. Looking for a place that does a quality job in the North Texas area (Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney).
Also, your recommendations on going 25% all around versus darker on the rear windows.
25% is considered legal here in Texas for the front side windows.
Scott Solar Auto Spa did mine and did nice work, I think they're in the Arlington area if memory serves. Don't remember how dark but I know it's 1 level darker than the legal all the way around. Personally I hate the windows not matching so I wouldn't get different tint levels, that's just me though.
I don’t know an installer in your area but I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND EXPE XR Plus window tint especially since you live in hot Texas. It’s the best quality tint on the market and has the highest heat block on the market.
If you really want to cut down the amount of heat in the car get the rear hatch window tinted because it a big heatsink! Tinting it also stops prying eyes from seeing anything in the rear hatch area when you have stuff there.
Here’s what I did.Driver & Passenger Windows XPEL XR PLUS Tint = 30%
Quarter panel (small) Windows XPEL XR PLUS Tint = 20%
Rear Hatch Window XPEL XR PLUS Tint = 20%
35% is considered legal here in Texas for the front side windows. You can put what you like on rear windows.
Keep in mind that your car came from the factory with a 70% tint. If you live somewhere where the tint is checked, the additional loss in transmittance needs to be taken into account. A 50% tint over the factory tint would give you 35%.
In TX all the legit tent people have to put an ID tag on the window showing the legal tent and who did it. I did the max on my '15 within a week of owning it and have never been stopped (for the tent). My guy came out to the house and did my buddies new car and my together for $150.....no issues with his labor or quality of material. One thing he did was to use a thin strip tent on the upper rear hatch (first 8 " or so) before covering the whole glass with the finish tent because of the defroster wires. The thicker tent will not form around the wires and will leave air gaps.....looks low rent.
There are lots of great shops in your area, just stop by and have a chat, ask lots of questions before buying.
Enjoy the ride.
Earmark Audio in Plano. I've taken a few of my cars to them in the past for window tinting and audio installation. I did 30% ceramic tint on the sides & 15% on the rear window on my C7.
These guys! The shop is called Pro Tint owned by Claudio. They've done my C7, my GMC, and 2 Volts for my wife. On my C7 and wife's current Volt we went with Llumar CTX ceramic 30% sides and rear with Llumar Air90 ceramic 90% on the windshields. I also used the Air90 on my GMC's factory-tinted sunroof and rear glass. They did my C7 over 6 years ago shortly after I took delivery and it still looks flawless to this day @ 50k miles.
Too dark of a tint gives your police department an excuse to pull you over IMHO
in texas they will RARELY pull you over for tint or no front plate. on my old ats-v i had 20% on all the windows and 35% on the entire windshield, and havent run a front license plate in a decade

25% all the way around will look good. The reason people go darker on the rear is for privacy. Some will do 5% or 20% on the rear to hide what is inside the hatch/back of the C7's.
For an installer nearest you, give our DFW General Manager, Mr. Orona, a call at 214-354-3327. He can tell you who's closest to you.
As Maxie mentions in the quote below, since you're in Texas, we highly recommend XR PLUS Window Tint as it can block up to 98% of infrared heat keeping you and your interior cool during these hot Texas summer days. We're headquartered in San Antonio so we know all about how hot it can get here in the Lone Star state. Plus, XPEL PRIME window tint blocks 99.9% of UVA and UVB cancer-causing rays and is backed by a lifetime transferable warranty.

Anyone do that 3m crystaline version? Anyone do 70% on the windshield if so can you skip the goofy visor cover or do you still need it. Aka a big waste of time and money.
there isn't one. the REAL difference is if you get your windshield tinted. get the sides and rear done 35% so you can actually see where the hell you're going at night. don't be dumb.
then, get a super light tint for the windshield, something that only blocks 10% or whatever, they even have some that block no light, only the heat. get any of the usual big brand CERAMIC tint. not the cheap stuff, not the dyed or metal film, etc.

They're who I use--to me, I wouldn't go darker than legal on the side windows--I just don't want the worry factor & PITA factor of removing the tint if caught (to each his own, however as I know people whose tint is not legal here in the metroplex); go darkest, short of limo tint, on the rear glass. Ceramic tint, is the best choice.
All done, went with Claudio at Pro Tint. Took about an hour. Needs some drying time before it clears up completely. Noticed the difference in comfort immediately while driving back home.
LLumar CTX
30% sides
15% rear hatch
