Default Exhaust envy

Yesterday i followed a late model Shelby Mustang for a mile or two. Wow, what a great sound made my C7 with NPP very wimpy by comparison. The Mustang may not have been stock as it had four large exhaust pipes but never the less hands down best sounding car I have heard in many a year. Even put my Borla equiped C5 to shame.

Gotta be headers for starters for sure.Them Mustang owners know it too. That's the only thing they got toward a C7.
Nothing worse than chillin top down and one of those ugly *** ponys dumps the clutch and floors it...I let them know..They are #1

I have a friend with a 2016 GT350 with only a catless x-pipe and I have a 2016 z06 with a catless x-pipe as the only exhaust modification. His car sounds far better than mine when laying into it. He can't keep up, but the sound of mine is somewhat disappointing when around other late model muscle cars.

Mustang's sound amazing. Great cars with an awesome sound. I had a 2015 with a nice exhaust and the sound was perfect. Did a quick pull with a friend of mine (him in his C7). There was zero chance of him hearing the awesome sound coming from my car since he was so far in front of me.

I bought that C7 from him, the following week.

TRUE STORY!

In stock form the coyote and voodoo motor do sound better. But nothing sounds better than a cammed small block Chevy. It doesn’t matter the year or model of car.

The 5.0s, old and new, sound great, but the firing order of that flat plane crank is hard to beat.

Long tube headers and Corsa extreme will cure this illness.

The Mustang has sounded awesome for quite a few years now. But, GM has upped its game in recent years with the NPP exhaust. Not quite as good as aftermarket, but still very good.

Nothing better than a great V8 exhaust sound. I also had a 5.0 Mustang (2012 Model). Stock setup sounded OK but really woke up when I put on a set of Flowmaster mufflers. Trouble was the drone was so bad it made my ears hurt. Ended up trading that on 2012 Shelby GT 500. This car sounded awesome with stock exhaust. That along with the supercharger whine and 7 speed manual made this a thrilling car to drive. That is one car I truly regret selling. Another awesome exhaust system was the stock set up on my 2016 Charger Scat Pack (6.4L). Very deep strong rumble. With the Borla S-Type axle back system on my C7, the sound is right up there with the best. However, the best of the best was the 67 Corvette with 427 and side pipes. Never lucky enough to own one but when I was in college, the guy down the street did and every morning when he left for work, I would step outside to listen to that incredible symphony as he drove by.

Many feel that louder is better, i.e., muffler deletes, headers, whatever... which isn’t always the case. Amplifying a mediocre tone doesn’t necessarily sound good. What’s makes the newer (S550) 5.0 sound great is the 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 firing order, but the older SN95 5.0 with the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 sounded the best IMO. Their 4.6, 5.4 and 5.8... meh! I owned the 5.4 and 5.8 GT500s, and dumped a **** load of money on exhausts and could never match the tonality of the 5.0. The SC whine was sublimely audible on the 07-09 (opening scene of ‘I am Legend’), but was muffled on the ‘10+, and any exhaust mods drowned it out completely. The flat plane is a whole other arena of bliss

I had a 1993 mustang cobra with flow master exhaust and it was the best sounding car i ever owned. I just put an awe xpipe and touring exhaust on my c7z and it is a close 2nd. Sounds great and the rev matched down shifts makes me giggle.

Long tubes + high flow cats + stock NPP will cure it as well.

Mopars also.... I have been behind many a charger, not even Helcats or Scat paks’....they have a very nice tone. So many variables involved with that tone, I have a GS and I think it sounds pretty good, getting a Brola system installed in am ...we shall see

Default Many times.....

I have said to others (and when being ignored myself); the best part of a stang was the exhaust note....

Do I dare say my 1962 Vet with Smitty mufflers sounds better than my 2019 C7 with NPP exhaust. True !

This past March I went to a C7 GS from a 2016 GT350 Shelby (flat plane 8250 rpm redline) and yes I miss the sound of the Shelby. From low to high rpm the flat plane engine sounds glorious. With that said, when the C7 is under power it sounds nearly as good. I tracked my Shelby a bunch and noticed at the track long tube header C7’s sounded amazing. If you want a glorious exhaust note a set of long tube headers will get you there IMO.

All things considered, given what I have seen on "Everyday Driver" at WOT and start up, the GT350 Shelby is as robust sounding and mean as I have ever heard a "factory" system. As mentioned in that review the complaint was that the "angryness" found it's way into the cabin and got old after a while, what a beast that engine. On another "note"I have seen and heard many clips of the GS exhaust from afar at WOT and would not rate it wimpy by any means, but have to say inside the cabin it does not sound as robust when windows are down. Having a Borla system installed as we speak.

What you are describing is a GT500 stock exhaust in my opinion...I had the opportunity to see and hear one in person WOW that is all I can say!

So I've owned 3 Mustangs. Awesome cars, great community. I love my Vette, it's my favorite car I have ever owned. That being said the burble of a Mustang is unmistakable. When one turns on with a good exhaust system, I know that it's a Mustang. It has to do with some odd timings that are used on the Mustangs. It creates this beautiful noise that puts a stock C7 to shame.

My favorite with a 14 GT I had with a Corsa Gt500 quad exhaust on it. I would get owners of all types of cars rolling down windows and asking me what my system was. What a beautiful sound.

Buuuuut the Vette is different. Refined and tame in a way at below 3k rpm. This, I think, was done on purpose. A Corvette has to be a lot of things for a lot of people. A grand tourer. A track car, a weekend warrior whip, a daily driver, heck even a grocery getter sometimes. I appreciate the Vettes tameness when I want it. Didn't have that option with the Stang. All go 100% of the time.

Even with my current cat deleted Borla Atak system it still just is not as loud and as clean sounding as I want. Friends have told me new Cam is the only way to get the proper sound I'm looking for.

This by no means means the car sounds bad. Far from it. At WOT, it is a thing of beauty.

But yeah. Stangs have a special sound. Vettes do too.
