Default Help - auto door lock

My 2015 C7 M7 automatically locks both doors when I drive. How do I stop it from doing that? They do open when I shut down. I didn't realize they lock automatically until I tried to let my wife out at the grocery store and her door was locked because the engine was still running. Just a PITA to have to push the unlock button.

THere is NO option to change that action. Start the car, put it in drive or 1st and the doors lock, period. WHen you turn off the car they unlock automatically, period.

You may press the unlock button at any time and ride with the doors unlocked but they will initially lock and you can't stop it.

You need to go into settings and change the preference for door locking. The procedure is detailed in your owner's manual.

Um, which page is that on, I'd really like to see it.

THe page where it says "Keep the doors from autolocking after you start the car and put it in gear and drive".

Automatic Door Locks
The vehicle is programmed so that
when the doors are closed, the
ignition is on, and the shift lever is
moved out of P (Park) for automatic
transmissions, or when vehicle
speed becomes faster than 13 km/h
(8 mph) for manual transmissions,
both doors will lock.
Use the power door unlock switch to
unlock the door when the vehicle is
not in P (Park). When the door is
closed again, the doors will lock
either when your foot is removed
from the brake or the vehicle speed
becomes faster than
13 km/h (8 mph).
Automatic Door Unlock
The vehicle is programmed so that
when the shift lever is moved into
P (Park) for automatic transmission
vehicles or when the ignition is
turned off or is in Retained
Accessory Power (RAP) for manual
transmission vehicles, both doors
will unlock.
With the vehicle stopped and the
engine running, door unlocking can
be programmed through the Driver
Information Center (DIC). This
allows the driver to choose various
unlock settings. For programming
information, see Vehicle
Personalization on page 5-41.

I read the manual before I posted. With an A8 the doors unlock when the car is in park. One would think that the doors would unlock when the manual transmission was moved to neutral and the emergency brake applied
I was hoping that there was a work around for this issue.

Sorry, had to chuckle when I read this. I myself would never categorize pushing the unlock button as a PITA, but true story.......just about every time the wife and I go out to dinner in the car, I almost always let her out at the front door of the restaurant so I can go park in no man's land. My car is an M7, I pull up to the front door and she tries to get out, almost always forgetting to hit the unlock button. She looks at me every time and tells my car is a big PITA!!

Mine only lock when I start driving (probably about over 5 MPH).

It may be but you said "Start the car, put it in drive or 1st and the doors lock" which is not true. According to the manual you need to not only put it in 1st but start moving forward at least 8 mph. That's all I was saying.

My bad. Elmer is correct. I was thinking about my '08 C6 where it was possible to program the locks.through the DIC Vehicle Personalization. I mistakenly assumed the C7 would be similar. Sorry 'bout that.

The text I added in post #5 from the manual states that quite clearly. I don't think we're saying different things. He doesn't want the car to lock after he starts it. There is no option to stop the car from autolocking when you get in and use the car. THe autolock that can be controlled from the NAV choices is after you stop the car, turn it off and then you can control the car from autolocking.

I have an M7 too. Honestly brother, I've never given it any thought. I do the same as the guys above, pull up to wherever, press the unlock, let her out and off I go.

I think most modern cars do this with no way of preventing it.

Pretty sure that's an NHTSA mandate to prevent people getting ejected from the vehicle out of the doors. Probably a better option to just push the button...

When I finish my drive, I have to get out of my car to shut the passenger side view mirror to go into the garage. Each time I forget to hit the button before I open the door. Wish the door would just open.
