Default 0-60 technique

I have read everything I could on the forum regarding set up for 0-60 runs. I didn’t lower rear tire pressure but followed the other instructions. Track mode, traction control off, A8 in D. From idle I had left foot on brake and lifted as I mashed the gas. Four runs and the rear end came loose on every one, once so violently that I had to lift off the gas.

Is there something I’m missing or do the tires really need lower PSI to hook?

Track mode is the stiffest suspension. Tour mode would soften it up, and allow the shocks to absorb some of the momentum, lessening the wheel spin.

In your description of using launch control after your set-up which sounds good; track mode, push center button quickly twice, HOLD the brake down HARD like a panic stop, push the gas down quickly to full throttle (keep holding the brake pedal HARD down) let the tach stabilize to about 18/1900 rpm. THEN release the brake for launch control. The computers will limit wheel spin for consistent 0-60 or 1/4 mile runs.

The first few times I tried it, I realized I was not holding the brake down hard enough. Now it works very well -- good luck - tom

Thanks for the help. I should have been clear that my car does not have launch control.

Since it’s a non Z51 car, it does not have Performance Traction Management. But it still has Competitive Driving setting within the Track mode. And launch control can be used there. To be honest, I don’t know how you engage Competitive Driving. Of course you turn the **** until you’re in track mode. But I don’t know if it’s a single long press of the traction button or two quick pushes like how it is to engage the PTM. Well, here’s the section of the owners manual.

In vehicles equipped with Performance Traction Management (PTM), the Competitive Driving Mode is only available in Sport Mode.

In vehicles not equipped with PTM (such as a a non Z51 car), the Competitive Driving Mode is available in Sport and Track Mode.

Then quickly pressing on the center console two times. STABILITRAK COMPETITIVE MODE displays in the Driver Information Center.

Is it different between the years? Not sure what year this manual is from but it very much says that you have to be in Track only to engage Competitive Driving or PTM and enter launch control.

Thanks to everyone. The car is fairly new to me and I was unsure about launch control. Now I can’t wait to get back out and try the right way.

It certainly may be. The information I posted is from the 2018 manual.

Just took my 2019 out a couple hours ago and tried every which way to find Competitive Driving in Sport...nope. All I can get is PTM in Track.

@kenownr after pushing that button twice and being in launch control will it let you use the brake to bump in if you are staging at the drag strip a couple of times to light the second stage bulb and still be in launch control or would you have to hit the button twice again once staged? I new about launch control but just foot-braked and left around 1,000 rpm.
this was a 12.12.

Interesting.

My 2018 Z06 will go into Competitive Driving Mode in Sport, and Performance Traction Management in Track.

Many options.

my 2016 z51 wo/PTM - shows competitive with the double click in Track but in sports it doesn't say it, but after trying a few times I was able to see Traction and Stable lights turn on.

Has anyone tried Launch Control on C7 Z51 that has a A&A SC installed. I am wondering or thinking it would be even harder to hook up and possibly dangerous so I have not attempted nor has there been decent warm weather to attempt.
