I've run 66 three times and I'm still finding new places so don't think you will see it all on your first trip. Do your homework first! Lots of reading; this is one of the best guides I have found
UTube is also a great place to do some homework, check out this guy; he and his dad did the whole trip from end to end and made a two hour video on it....worth a look.
You might think that they saw it all, but I have found many things on the route that they missed.
There is tons of info on the web, take lots of notes and TAKE YOUR TIME driving!!! Enjoy the ride and congrats on joining the retirement group.....been a member for almost 10 years myself....best job I EVER!

Thanks. I did watch some of that video. They left from the Santa Monica pier and headed east. I'll start in St. Louis and head west although not interested in California. It's looking like it'll be the Grand Canyon for a day or two and then mosey on back to Ga. But you're right........have to research first. Can't just hit the road without a plan right?

If you are in the area of the Grand Canyon, IMHO, you need to make a point to visit Lake Powell and, if you are a western movie fan, Monument Valley. Another interesting sight just east of Flagstaff off of I-40 is Meteor Crater. Some classic Route 66 stuff to see in Tucumcari and Flagstaff, just off of I-40 for both. Good advice from hisvette.
If you can plan your trip to be in Williams AZ (Grand Canyon/I40) on Sept 20, look at attending the National Corvette Museum National Parks Tour; https://www.corvettemuseum.org/event...stance_id=1306 I setup and lead this tour for the last 3 years (two tours per year), it's an awesome week tour with other Corvette people. I have turned this trip over to another couple and started a new tour for the NCM in Colorado Springs.
If you can work the National Parks Tour into your trip, you will not regret it.....it's an awesome trip!
