Default What if......

….finances were not a concern. I am speaking to those of you (without getting financially personal) who are like me; teacher/coach for 40 years, recently retired and doing fine (and the commensurate income) BUT the Corvette has been my go to both for initial cost and cost of repairs/maintenance, the ultimate bang for the buck. That has not kept me from drooling and sometimes considering say, a late model used 911? 2009 Audi R8 (both manuals of course)? Etc. UNTIL I look not only at the purchase price but the (gulp) price of upkeep/repairs/parts. I have often said what I could afford to buy and afford to own are two different realities.
Now, what about you, if the money were there would the Vette remain in the garage? Would something else be parked next to it? Or would the old C be replaced with something else entirely?
PS, it doesn't help that my son is an Amazonian up in Seattle, loves cars and buys what he wants/enjoys (and does work on for fun) while I just come along for the ride (but some really nice rides)….

Something else may be a possibility in that Utopian world, but it would still be parked next to my C7 Z06

I went from a C3 to a Porsche 928 (needed a back seat for my young kids back then)...realized that the Porsche was nice, but WAY more expensive to maintain. Bought a C5 and last summer a new C7. And since that's the last manual Vette for now...no, it won't be going anywhere...probably ever! Good luck!

Got to say dbird - for the $$ I still have to stay with the C7Z and maybe park a ZR1 next to it. New 911's and F cars even if the money was there to buy and afford to own one I'm kind of thrifty and would put the money into other things I enjoy.

C7 in a heartbeat... Porsche and Audi make great cars that drive great, but IMO neither has the aura of the C7. I just don't get the same buzz from either as I do walking across the parking lot to my C7
Coming down to earth, one must consider the co$$$t of maintenance, parts and labor... A 911 owning buddy showed me the bill for a brake job on his 911 Carrera S and I asked if he had slipped in his mortgage bill as a prank.

Nope. I think the Corvette is a sexy beast. Runs and handles great, looks fantastic, and then there's that amazing American V8.

I've owned a 924s, 944 Cabriolet and a 928S4 - all were amazing cars - but they weren't even a close 2nd in terms of the amount of pure enjoyment Im having with my Corvettes.

I would trade my C7 for an Audi V10 R8 with a manual trans....
And to complete my dream garage would be the last year made 928 GTS with a manual transmission. Somebody has one on cars.com, 33,000 miles, for $165K (!!!!!!!) One of 30, 1995 model year, in the USA with a manual trans.
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...8382/overview/

Other picks for my dream garage
Triumph TR6
Jag XKE V12 convertible
Porsche 911 Turbo
BMW 635M
BMW 850i
Mercedes AMG GT
Lotus Esprit
Aston Martin Vantage
Ford GT

I'm in the same boat; I agree that the Corvette will always be the best bang for the buck but there are things I like better on the 911 C4s.....it's differently more or a drivers (track) car out of the box. It's really a case of getting what you pay for and buying what you can afford. When it come to the driving experience; hands down when it comes cross country road trips, I will take the C7 for ride, comfort and storage.....BUT for twisty back roads, the "P" car is much more nimble and feels more in it's element.

Enjoy the Drive no matter what the emblem on the hood

Right now I am good with my C7Z M7 Vert, had 4 Porsche's in the past including 911 turbo. My next move may be a C8Z HTC when it arrives.

I know this is gonna sound crazy but if i had the unlimited money id buy more new c7s because those are getting rare.

Id prob get another that will be brand new ready to use when done with current one and maybe another new back up if i ever wanted to use it in the late future or maybe can resell if i changed my mind. A brsnd new manual z06 could become very valuble. Cant think of a car id like better.

I thought of getting other cars but id always favor one which would be the c7 so why bother even if i had the money. Maybe an aventador or drophead rolls royce.

They don’t write songs about Porsche’s or Audi’s.

I’ve always loved Corvettes, if I had megabucks and a 10 car garage, I would have C1 through C8, even though the C8 would have to be automatic, and the C4 would probably have very low miles, for the other two vehicles I would have a pick up and maybe a Jeep. I don’t know where my wife would park, lol.

Right now I have my perfect vehicles; My C7 Vert is my fun car, and my Toyota 4Runner is my zombi apocalypse vehicle. If I were to say, win a lottery and have virtually endless funds, here's what I would do, over time;

Build a nice house with a 7 car garage.
Park my C7 in the middle.
Upgrade my 2018 4Runner to a 2020. (much improved screen and controls)
Add an Aston Martin DB11 or maybe a Vantage.
Add a Tesla Model S Performace
Get a Tesla Model X for my wife
Two bays left - one for future growth, the other as a work/wash bay (with a lift).

I would keep the C7, but a C8 would be parked next to it. Second choice would be a Dodge Charger Hellcat.

Fortunately, over the years I have never had a money problem. I probably could have bought anything out there. I never considered anything else but a Corvette. I have been daily driving them since I was 21 years old. That was fifty two years ago. During that time I have owned twenty two Vettes, all generations but the C1. My latest a '19 Z51. I guess at seventy three you could call me a Corvette fan boy. And, I would be proud of that.

I love my C7 convertible with manual trans, but I've got a close friend who has a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ roadster and if money were no object I'd have one of those. That car is in another league altogether. What a beast of of a car.

Would love to have a gt3 rs. I have been thinking of getting a zr1 but for 130k I’m getting close to a 16gt3 rs. I have always wanted a gt3 but I have a corvette budget and I do love corvettes. I have owned 2 c2’s, 1 c3, 1 c6 zo6 and current car is a z7 z06. I seriously think I may end up with an ultra violet 16 gt3 rs before the summer ends.
