Default C7 Z06 one key fob

So just bought my first Vette. 2017 Z06 Coupe that came with a single key fob. I bought a second OEM online, but now for the confusion I want to clear up and ensure I don't brick the thing.

I have read and been told I need to reprogram both from scratch, and that I can short program only the new (second) fob?

Anyone been down this road with a C7 and programming a second fob (not 3-8)?

Thanks!

Here are the instructions for programming.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...s-and-rke.html

From the instructions:
Also: Model Year 2017 and newer require 2 FOBs to do the short program to add FOB #3. If you DO NOT have both FOBs and want to add a new FOB to have 2 FOBs, you must do the long program and get FOBs 1 & 2.

I can't get the car into programming mode, I'll give it another shot. The only FOB anywhere near the car is one it came with.

To do the long program, youmust not have a FOB anywhere near the car when you try to get into the programming mode. Just have the key in your hand and the FOB in the kitchen or a good 10' away from the car, not in your pocket OR the car.

I used to write training material when I was with AT&T. Paper and Computer Based Training. A little old stuff still hangs around in my head.

I tried again with no transmitter in the area and still stuck at turn key 5 times/5 seconds. Screen does wake up be never reads “Press Engine Start/stop Button to learn”. When I do press start/stop it reads no transmitter found.

I'm going to try again and wait longer for the start/stop to learn...

4. Turn the key five times within
10 seconds.
The DIC message displays
REMOTE LEARN PENDING
PLEASE WAIT.
5. Put the key back into the RKE
transmitter.
6. Wait for 10 minutes until the
DIC displays PRESS ENGINE
START BUTTON TO LEARN,
then press the ENGINE
START/STOP button.
The DIC reads REMOTE
LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT.

Do you see this when you are trying to get the programming mode to function?

Elmer,
First... Thanks for all the help. It's above, beyond and appreciated.

Step 8: 5 key turns: I've had no luck getting any DIC message, just a backlit screen.

Numerous attempts changing the 5 key turn tempo doors and hatch open closed, etc..

I've also read another user same issue who had to take it in for programming. Bonus with that scenario is I'll get the second (new) FOB blank key actually cut. I'm still digging for any tech data to see if there is a setting or program reboot that might fix my issue.

Yer breaking my brain on this one!

Per chance, did you buy the car used? IF so, might it have been a "Canada" car and if yes, we're dead trying to do this ourselves. It might need to go to the dealer to get it done. Only American delivered cars can be programmed by the owner.

It looks like the dealer might be your only option on this problem.

We are on the same page. Yes the car is used and was delivered to me from Chicago area with prior Michigan owner.

No signs of Canadian set up I can easily spot, and just checked the software is current. If this in fact is a canook Vette, I wonder if the dealership can reflash?

IF Canada car, dealer is the ONLY one that can set you back up for the 1 & 2 FOB configuration.

A little late, but I had to take the battery out of my one good fob to get it into long program mode. I couldn’t get it far enough away from the car to get it to work otherwise.

From the instructions:

I can confirm that’s with a 2019 and one fob, the short program did NOT work for me. Got kind of scary when the car would not start until something timed out. Theft protection I am told. Took the car to the dealer who fixed it in 5 min. And $85.

It's worth a shot, but the car shot enter program mode with or without a fob near by (steps 1 - 3). I can't even get there.

I also get the No key found when I press start/stop.
