So - I've got a 14 Stingray with what has to be the world's dumbest and slowest Infotainment system. If I want to make a call, I have to wait about 10 minutes for this crazy thing to initialize and find my phone. I see on here: https://www.infotainment.com/collect...ant=1025047957
that I can upgrade to essentially what comes in the 19's....the latest there will probably ever be for a C7. My question is this: Is it worth the $1400? I mean - it's essentially the same factory system - just a newer update right? I already have the Navigation, but I rarely use it and prefer the Android Auto which is the main thing I see I would gain. For those of you with newer generation systems - does it operate better? Is it still "Stupid as hell" and drive you nuts when you are trying to say a name and it can't figure out even the simplest of words? My wife and I were discussing getting this today and I figured I'd ask ya'll and see what you guys think.
I have a 2016 Z06. I just had the Infotainment reflashed with the update that added Android Auto. My car did not have navigation. I always prefer Google Maps anyway. With the Android Auto, the Google Maps works awesome. I've never had an issue connecting with my phone with Bluetooth or via USB. I've only played around with voice commands a little, but it always called or did whoever/whatever I wanted and understood seeming well. It will indicate my text messages and read them back to me if I like and I can respond via voice commands and it seems fine too. I think the 2019's have something in addition to what mine has but can't recall what it is. I've been very satisfied with mine so far (car is only 2 months old for my ownership).
Is there a way to have your system reflashed to get Android Auto? That has to be a hell of alot cheaper than $1400. If not - a phone bracket for your window is $30 and run Google maps off your phone...again alot cheaper than $1400.
I have a 2015 3LT Z51 and swapped mine out cause I wanted Apple Car Play. System is noticeably faster then it was and I have retained all my settings, and options. Did not lose anything. For me it was beyond worth it to get a faster responding system as well as add Car Play to the car. I recommend it if you plan on keeping the car for awhile.

I could be off on this but I thought I read that the Flash for Android Auto only began for the early 2016 releases. After that they came with Android Auto.

You might be 100% correct - I do not know which model year units can and can not be flashed - but that is a great call out for the OP to investigate.
This is the same thing - from a different company. From what I'm reading...they're maybe not as sophisticated, but what they're doing is swapping out the HMI and GPS modules to "hacked" ones from a later model car. I've done some investigation and you can't just swap the modules - they're VIN coded. SO - you have to have a company like this unlock and re-code them for anything to work. It's essentially the same system - just from a newer car. The one in my 14 is just stupid slow and if you try to punch the button and say "Call So and So"...it'll respond with "Call your State Farm Agent?" It NEVER is able to understand the name and it's slower than hell which drives me bonkers. The technology wasn't this bad in 14....This is more like from an '08 or so. Oh well....I'm just trying to find out if the newer cars are as dumb, but it sounds like they upgraded the system.
When you get one of these systems that just WORKS like it's supposed to. (Like the Sync 3 in my Ford Sedan) - it's a wonderful thing. The technology should be smooth, seamless and be helpful - not make you want to punch the dash.

Yep..he's right. There was a development at one point in '15 or '16 where it came with Apple Car Play but not Android Auto. A little later on that year - they updated it and offered it as a free flash update for owners to get Android Auto added. Mine's a '14 and before all that came out. It's one of the "REALLY" dumb units.

Thanks in advance!
There are a lot of posts on this topic and there are many that did the upgrade as did I. Mine is a 2014, 1LT, non-Z51 car. No regrets and I use Apple CarPlay all the time. When I did the upgrade, I did the I05 (no NAV) setup vs. I06 (with NAV). I did not have NAV originally and didn't want/need it for the upgrade, so that saved a chunk of money. In some of the other posts, you will find there was some loss of a few functions for those with the Z51 option. Anyway, here's my post from a few years back when I did it, if you're interested...

The 2016+ HMI is a new hardware design. That's why it's faster. It's got almost nothing in common with the 14-15 system aside from the general visual style.

It's not the same. Look up the original thread on them and you will find many had problems with infotainments system regarding losing car functions. Anthony at MVI knows his stuff. He even answers via text if you have any issues. So far MVI is the only place to get a system that will not cause you to lose other functions.
The 14 system is stupid as hell, Only use it when you want to get frustrated as it will only call everyone you do not want to call and will NEVER call the person you want.... My Google phone is really smart, it will do everything the car was supposed to do.. You can say "hey Google" or just squeeze the sided of the phone and tell it what to do.. Send a message, call someone, track up or down, open app, you name it...
Not sure if you have the HUD, if you do get into the car and start, let it connect using Bluetooth, hit menu on the head unit and disconnect your phone, wait until it says disconnected and then reconnect... It will now show all songs playing in the HUD... instead of Bluetooth....
