Default PPF question

Hi everyone,

My new to me 2017 GS has PPF on the front bumper, splitter, hood, mirrors, and rear quarter panel. It was there when I bought it so no idea on brand/type/etc

My question is - do you wax over it? Just wash it? Or how do you take care of your finish? It looks great after washing but just curious what everyone does... All tips welcome!

Thanks!

Todd

I have Ceramic Pro 9H ceramic coating on top of it. Make washing much easier.

Whatever you do to paint like wax or ceramic you can and should do to ppf. Only thing you shouldn't do is use a buffer on it.

Thanks. What do you guys use for the occasional touch up of fingerprints and minor dirt in general? I keep seeing F11 but not sure if it's for that or what. Yes, I'm a newbie.

Dude before this car I washed my card with dish soap never waxed etc. Now I clean the Vette Everytime I drive her. I use turtle wax ceramic spray. I have watched numerous you tube videos on torcher tests and the turtle wax holds up real well. Her is what I am using after wash and between washes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07XYQZ493?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_ image

There is a lot of good how to videos on you tube for what to wash with to strip wax vs. what to use to clean and not strip wax. It basically is a pH neutral soap vs pH high soap. Right now I use purple power cleaner to strip the car clean it has a pH level of 10. That's if I want to clean the car real good and then reapply the turtle wax. If it's just a nice bath I use chemical brothers honeydew wash it's pH neutral it doesn't clean hard grim but doesn't strip your protectant.

On my XPEL PPF and ceramic coating, I use their Detail Spray and Ceramic Boost... The detail spray and a microfiber towel work well on the fingerprints that seem to attach themselves out of nowhere on the finish.

I'm thinking you should bring your question to this > https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...discussion-10/ part of the CF. Lots of good info from guys hanging out there.

I use the same wax that I use on the regular painted surfaces. Haven't had any problems with doing it that way.

Have used my dual action on many PPF’s and they polish up like new.

Don't use petroleum based products. Other than that wash wax it like the rest of the cars surface.

I have done the same. I’ve also used a micro-finishing compound (scratch and swirl remover) to remove heavy scuffs in the past.

I was told the heat can damage the ppf. Do you use the same amount of force and time as on paint or do you juse a lighter touch and less time. I would love to use my orbital on it just was told not to.

I don’t use a lot of pressure. Pretty much the same as when applying any wax-type product. The most I’ll put on my PPF is Meguiars NXT II using the orbital. If I need to use a compound I do that by hand. All the other times I’ll use Meguiars Waterless Wash & Wax between hose baths.
