I have a '14 Stingray/Z51. It's a daily driver and I have over 50,000 miles of mostly city driving. I've raced it a couple of times at the drags but otherwise it's easy driving.
At the last oil change at the dealer I asked them to really inspect everything as some of our roads are full of pot holes and I was starting to hear/feel something rattling, maybe in the suspension. The verdict was "one motor mount broken and the other one leaking". Estimate $3000-$4000 for parts and labor.
It's been a long time since I worked on my car seriously but I have never heard of a "leaking" motor mount. Being a suspicious kind of guy, I would like for an expert in our favorite auto to just tell me if this sounds like a logical diagnosis or are they just getting into my pocket.
No its not a common problem and that price is absurd .......same type of mounts on a C6 took about 2 hours start to finish to install , can't believe the C7 is that much harder to install
My suggestions: you have a couple of Corv shops in/around Tucson. But if it were me, I'd call the prez of the Tucson Corv. club and find out who is best to use. $3K+ sounds really high to me altho I could be wrong.
The price implies to me that they are looking to pull the engine... at least. This may or may not be necessary, even if the Shop Manuals say so. I've seen things reported in the manuals needing removed to do given jobs that are not really necessary. Given the price you've been quoted, it would be far better to find or buy the appropriate manual yourself and check it first. All the best.
Mounts are $100 each and book labor is 8.8 hours, so even with some incidentals the quote is ridiculous. Estimates that are this far out means the mechanic told the writer he doesn't want the job.
I thought it seemed high. I know a different car but my MB slk320 years ago had a bad motor mount and it was around 600 at the MB dealer...this was around 2008. So 1000 bucks today would make sense.
That price is insane. I replace my passenger side motor mount right in my garage with the car on jack stands only took me a couple of hours. Not really that bad of a job.
