Have had a persistent problem with one of my rear wheels leaking about one pound per day. 2016 Z51 chrome. Carefully dunking the tire & wheel in a water tank reveals nothing. Dismounting the tire showed white corrosion in several areas mostly along the rim. Has anyone had this same problem? Any recommendations for perhaps dismounting tire thoroughly removing the wheel corrosion & coating the interior of the wheel with some type of corrosion preventative before remounting the tire? Thx
I had a value stem leak before (not on my C7). It wouldn't show up unless the car's weight was on the tire. This happened right after getting new tires installed so I believe the stem or TPMS system was damaged during mounting.
My not oem but chrome ZO6 replica Factory Reproductions set has had two different wheels develop leaks. Both had bead areas that had flaking chrome and light corrosion. My installer wire brushed the areas and reseated the tires. I was told they have seen a lot of repro and factory chrome wheels develop this problem. So far they are holding air which is good since Factory Reproductions would do nothing even though they were still under warranty.
I had a new tire on my C5 leak immediately. A water test did not find anything. It turned out to be a little piece of rubber from manufacturing in the area where it seats into the wheel. It would only leak when driven or parked in the 'right' orientation.
My wife's '14 Buick regal has corrosion at the bead area on all four wheels. I bought a junk yard wheel, that to had the same condition. I wire brushed the area, used JB weld on the area and sanded smoothed then epoxy painted the whole bead area, mounted & balanced the tire and did the same thing for the oyher four wheels, so far so good.
