Just tried to clean up my C7 black under hatch lining area. Made it worse. Streaks and uneven look. The rag I was using turned black from apparently absorbing the pigment. Tried different products on sample areas but nothing seemed to work uniformly. Anybody? Anybody?
Same thing happened to me learned my lesson: don't mess with the paint under there. I just wipe it with a damp microfiber now. Its not perfect but at least it doesn't take the paint off
You can spray paint it with matte black shaker can. I've seen it done on other liners...IMPORTANT - just mist the paint over the liner - do not do heavy coats. A few VERY light coats will make the liner look brand new (unless you damaged it).

If I need something a little more aggressive than water, I use the GM glass cleaner (white foamy stuff in spray can) that's also safe for the transparent top. I spray just a little onto a rag and then wipe. Even that will change the black a little, but it can be done evenly.
20+ years of Corvettes with crummy black paint inside the hatch.
My 2016 Stingray is like that, but my new 2019 Z06 has a very nice finish in that area. Go figure. Maybe they got a lot of complaints and decided to up their game in that area? Those with 2019 models, how is your finish?
Very poor paint/paint job. I ordered my Z06 and there were touch-up brush marks in several areas from the factory. It looked like someone grabbed the hatch from a junkyard and touched it up. I ultimately painted it myself and it looked good as new... wait, what?!?

I wonder why this piece isn't plastic. I know plastic is "cheap" but its very durable and this is an area takes a lot of abuse since items in the hatch can scratch it.

I learned this the hard way on my 2016. The more I tried cleaning the worse it looked. Now I just wipe with a damp microfiber and it's fine.

I have a 2019 and the finish is fine. I have even conditioned it a couple times with Aerospace 303 and it has a nice satin finish.
I’ve never even touched this part of my car and I just noticed a few spots are chipped away and now have the yellow of my car showing on the interior under side of my hatch.
McGuire’s interior detail spray. I use it on my 2018 ray, for three yrs now, no problems. For touch ups I use good old black paste shoe polish. Let it dry buff with a micro fiber cloth and walk away with a smile.
I have no idea what that stuff is and I don't think it appears on any other part in the car. I also can't figure out for the life in my why GM would use this substance.
I've had acceptable results by using CarPro Perl neat or @ 3:1 or Megs Hyper Dressing - @4:1.
The weird thing is sometimes it looks better than others. Sometimes it gets splotchy and sometimes it behaves. It makes me question my detailing skills.
I actually think I'm afraid of it! So I made a deal with it..."you don't get untidy, and I won't "eff" with you with anything harsher that a microfiber cloth dampened with a diluted waterless wash, except for when we go to shows"
I don't typically negotiate with inanimate objects, but I didn't know what else to do. For what it's worth...it is upholding it's end of the deal.

Same with my 2019 Z06 hatch. Mine seems to have a nice finish and I’ve even applied a few light coats of Aerospace 303 to give it a nice satin black look.
