Default QuickJack is great, until . . .

Just a little humor, bit of a rant, and a few useful tips thrown in.

Anyone remember From Russia with Love? One of the best Bond movies.
James Bond: Pardon me, do you have a match?
Kerim's Chauffeur: I use a lighter.
James Bond: Better still.
Kerim's Chauffeur: Until they go wrong.
Kind of some up my feelings right now.

OK, my Quickjack has worked well. I have perhaps used it 20 times or so. I had noted that it was getting harder and harder to connect, but did not think much about it. The last time I used it it was really tough. In fact, one hose connection did not quite connect all the way . . .

So have you ever had ATM oil spray all over your garage, as well as you face, clothes, etc? Quite a rush.

I clean everything up and try to order parts for Quickjack. Of course I go online, find the parts I want and place an order. I also pay the exorbitant rate to get 2 day shipping, as the parts are listed in stock. After a few days I call, and find out they are not in stock. Get transferred to parts where I can order other things and confirm they stock.

Of course the on-line order charged my Visa immediately. I call in for a refund. Well, they can’t do that over the phone, I need to reply to the invoice email and request cancellation. This email just happens to be a “do not reply” type, so this does not work either. Another call and they give me an alternative email to send it to. I then get a note saying that it might take 15 business days to get a refund due to Covid. Guess them electrons are moving slower these days . . . It’s been 15 days and still no reply. Will start phoning again soon.

Lessons learned:
1. There are now tips to reduce the gradual increase in pressure. When lowering, keep the down button pushed for a few seconds after both jacks are down to assure all the oil is back. Also, there was a tip to push the down button with one hand when connecting to the main unit to make it easier to pop in the device.

2. If you want to order anything call them to see if it is actually available. The website does not help, and cancelling an order has taken me about 6 calls so far (and still counting).

3. The Joy of Cleaning:
Skin: A long shower is in order.
Glasses: For once I was happy that I wear glasses. Eyeglass cleaner worked nicely.
Clothes: Presoak then wash
Shoes: Toss them
Car: Detailing spray does a nice job.
Walls: A weak Dawn solution
Concrete floor: This was a challenge. Luckily my brother-in-law rebuilds classics for a hobby, and recommended this product. Worked great!

Sounds like quite the mess, compounded by the parts issue. Glad you got things resolved.

LOL, just called again. My take is they are big enough to be bureaucratic but not quite big enough to be efficient at it. Refund request has been with accounting for about 3 weeks, but they are too busy to work on it quite yet.

What a bummer sounds like my luck lately. Saturday I went to do the first oil change at 500 miles. I get everything out set up the QJ, tools, fan (its hot in Texas right now). Uh-oh the fans not working, start working on the fan, the blade is spinning in the flange that attaches to the shaft. Hmmm, I know I'll clean it real good and put some Gorilla Glue on it, stuff fixes everything. Uh-oh Gorilla Glue spout is all stopped up.....another project. One project leads to about 3 or 4 lately for me. Happy to say the fan is working, the oil is changed and while I had it up on the QJ I did the first CarPro Essence polish. Thanks for your tips, gotta say so far I love the QJ.

I had a hose connection split open on my 7000 and "mess" does not describe it! I just used Simple Green to cleanup all the ATF. I ordered two hoses so I have a spare hose for the next time. I am glad the car did not fall off as one side came down like a rock and the car did not get damaged. Glad I was not under it at the time!

So the important thing to remember is to make sure that you either put jack stands underneath or lock the bars so it does not come down on top of you! Don't trust it with your life!

I had a similar issue with my brother's Quick Jack - just not as dramatic thankfully. During the lift it leaked down. It didn't lose any fluid so not sure what the problem was (the pump? or a pinched hose? system not primed properly?) but I needed a good ole floor jack to get the car level again and then off the QJ. It worked fine afterward but seeing the car lean over like that was heart-in-your-throat type stuff

As noted you MUST use the lock bars and I personally wouldn't stand on the sides of the vehicle during the lift or lowering process in case one side fails.

That's why I'm perfectly happy with the old school approach. As far as cleaner for this type mess 3M 08984 works great as well and rubber/vinyl friendly.

I had a similar issue last weekend but caught it before it sprayed but did make a nice puddle. Between 7 cars we have used it at least 40 times. No issues now. I have the “old school” for standby but glad I do not have to waste time using it.

I would call my credit card company and have that issues resolved over the phone. I've never had an issue asking for a refund from my credit card company (Capital One) from a vendor that won't help. They give me the credit ASAP and require the vendor to provide proof to get the charge added back.

You should not support the weigh of the car on the cylinders and support the cars with the locks. Its in the manual ...

I had the same problem hooking the hoses up, they still have pressure on them from the last use/job. Push the down button for a few seconds to get the pressure off the hoses then you can connect or disconnect them easily.
