Default Range AFM - Version Question

I know this subject has been beaten to death - I've searched and read multiple threads on this, but I have some specific questions I couldn't find answers for.

I'm in California so I couldn't order one directly from Range - sent them an email and got a quick response. Basically "no". So, I found an authorized vender that is listed on Range's website (I won't name them) and ordered one. It was sent overnight and I just got it. Package was not shrink wrapped. The box has "Copyright Range Technology 2020" printed on the box - so I assumed that at least the BOX is new. When I plug it in I get the multiple flashes for the major version number but it flashes so damned quick I can't tell if it's flashing 7 or 8 times. It then flashes one LED for the minor - one long flash... just that one. So, if I understand this right - I have version 8.1 (or maybe 7.1?). How is this possible coming out of this "new" box? I think 8.6R1 came out a couple of years ago? Can anybody with version 8.6R1 verify that there are six flashes for the minor revision?

Anyhow, I have an extender with an off/on switch coming in tomorrow and I'll install that to prevent any power draw if I do have an older version. I do wonder if I send it back to Range to get it updated if their moratorium on California mailing includes already purchased devices and return mail. lol

edit: now I'm super confused... I took a video using my cameras slow-mo to capture the flashes and I'm getting 9 flashes and then 1 long one. Revision 9.1?? I thought the latest was 8.6? slow mo flash/revision number: https://imgur.com/hZSYexI

edit2: Ok, got a super quick response back from Range. The newest revision is 9... yay!

"The latest version that we have is 9.0 so it sounds like your unit is up to date.

Version 8.6 has been out for a couple of years and works flawlessly in my 2019 GS.

They now have version 9.1 available. Their tech support told me the only difference is v9.1 also is compatible with 2020 vehicles.

Thanks - I was just a little confused and concerned at first since with all my research on here the latest revision I had read about was 8.6, which was mentioned as the most current even on the newest threads I could find. The vendor had been accused of sending an opened package with an old revision in one review and I got paranoid. They really should slow down those flashes, the only way I could actually count them was by recording them in slow motion. I just wanted to be sure I could leave it plugged in as I believe versions prior to 8.6 still had power draw issues.
