Except, the only problem is the screen is complete **** in every regard. It's slow, low resolution, etc. Using your phone is far better. Get the same clip everyone uses including me, then put a schoshe mount or however you spell that on there, and job done.
'cept the phone screen is tiny in comparison to the big screen. You need not touch the big screen very much at all and it's not that slow. AA on the big screen is far better than a phone screen.
I do not use Android Auto but have played with it. It works fine with no appreciable lag and the resolution is fine.
One little neat think is one can use the car's voice recognition system when Waze is up. The car hears the voice command, and then tells you it is passing it off to Waze which then interprets the command. Fun.
I'm a big fan of Android Auto. I'm constantly using Google map on the phone to find a place then when I plug the phone into either my GS or Grand Cherokee, that location pops up on the map and I can get directions. I typically don't use voice directions, so the larger screen on the car works well for me.
Today, I just got the MRC (suspension) software upgrade. I was charged $350.

You can actually go directly to Google assistant, just have to hold down the voice button a few seconds and it activates.
Better yet, when at home use your large screen on your desktop (remember desktops?) or laptop and go to maps.google.com. Find a location or business or plan a route and use the send to phone option there. Or find many places and send them all. They will be notifications on your phone. Later, when in the car, swipe down to reveal notifications then tap on the one you want to drive to. Viola!
My 2016 came with Apple carplay but not android audio, this update enables AA as well. You can run Android from your phone through your head unit.
I had two 2016’s AA done My truck & caddy both were Updated free. The dealer was supposed to load both when they received the cars/truck in 2016/2017. It takes like 5 minutes to load. I’d call GM and ask what gives.

The free AA upgrade offer was only good until 12/31/2016. I guess the dealers could charge whatever they wanted after that.
