Default Reflash

As some of you know, I had my torque converter repair done last month. It took 38 days to get my car back so I have no plans on using that dealer again. I've had the car about 3 weeks now and it threw a P26C8 code indicating a problem with the AFM exhaust actuator. I had the car looked at by a local muffler shop to see if maybe the connections were loose or disconnected. They are not. Now my repair invoice for the TC mentions nothing about re flashing the computer following the tear down and reassembly althugh I do remember the dealer telling my warranty co that it would need to be done. I've also noticed a lot of carbon on the outer left exhaust tip. I went to my dealer and asked about just doing a reflash. I would pay for it and if the code stayed, I would bring it back but if the code went away then no harm no foul and all would be good. They just don't seem to want to do that and their lead time on checking codes is 3 days. I can't leave my car there for three days. I am thinking because only the drivers side tip is black, maybe it is just the actuator.
I read somewhere where there is a tune that can eliminate this issue. I'd like to weigh the cost vs actuator replacement.

Yellow if you want I can read and clear the code for u as I have GM GDS2 I live up in Dacula but ....

It seems highly unlikely that your AFM valve, which is different from your NPP valve just went bad , they do go bad but only under extreme heat conditions like racing events ... especially after you just had the rear subframe taken down for the TC replacement .

My bet is either the connection is loose ( and its a bear to get to ) or they somehow pinched a wire reassembling your car .

Also Black tips are normal on a car without a tune , its the one that is not black i would worry about

Let me know
Dave

@yellow2007

Also I am sure the flash that they are talking about is the latest TCM update , even if it an ECM update it would have no affect on the operation of the AFM valves

Go to Auto Zone , have them read the code , if it is in history have them clear the code and see if it returns as it could be just one of those corvette things ...( take a picture of the codes they see for me )

i will still be able to see the code in history to see what caused it . It could be something as simple as a temporary loss of communication with the CanBus

Thanks Dave. I may take you up on the offer. My only concern is that the CEL would return. Then again maybe it won't so it may be worth a shot. Let me know what your schedule looks like and I'll take a run up....

Thanks,
Len

@yellow2007

Len , I would take it to Auto Zone first , have then read and clear it , if the fault no longer exsists , the light will stay out, if it does exist, it will come right back on again. Then u know u have an issue

It's not a blinking cel is it , if it's solid cel you will be fine

Basicly that's all the dealer is going to do for you lol

I have a random TCM code, every two times since i have owned my car , I know what the code is referencing and there is absolutly nothing wrong with the component, so I just clear and go in my way as I am sure its just a module that did not "boot" up when it was polled by the ECM for its status

I am home all weekend and plan just to do some work around the house , I am also working from home next week as we are having our home remodeled

Thank you sir... Len came over my house today and we were able to hook up his car to my GM GDS2 and MDI ( after some initial issues caused by Window 10 wanting to do an update )

Clearing the AFM valve code just resulted in the code instantly setting again in bank . Since he does not race the car .. i have to believe that its a connection issue from the recent transmission work he had done

He is going to try and get an appointment with the dealer and if he can't, next week we will put it up on my quick jack

Dave

Dave was awesome. His reader was way more detailed than my 80 dollar Bosch.I did have a muffler shop check the connections but they just did a visual so it's off to the dealer tomorrow for hopefully no more than a 3 day stay.......As recently as my doing my own transmission drain and fill, getting under this car even with jack stands and the jack in place gives me the heebee geebee's. I am of the same mind as Dave though. The connectors may LOOK plugged in but not actually making a connecction. I just wish the damn AFM valves weren't so difficult to get at. If they cannot at least get a diagnosis by wednesday I may take Dave up on his quick jack offer.....

Once again, Thanks Dave.......
