A couple times I have thought to take along one of those small lithium battery boosters just in case, but never needed to use it.

Service Mode
This power mode is available for
service and diagnostics, and to
verify the proper operation of the
malfunction indicator lamp as may
be required for emission inspection
purposes. With the vehicle off, and
the brake pedal not applied,
pressing and holding ENGINE
START/STOP for more than
five seconds will place the vehicle in
Service Mode. The instruments and
audio systems will operate as they
do in ON/RUN, but the vehicle will
not be able to be driven. The engine
will not start in Service Mode. Press
ENGINE START/STOP again to turn
the vehicle off.

All you need to do is get in the car and press and hold the power button for the infotainment system until the infotainment system turns on and it will stay on.
After I wash my car, I get in and start it and roll down the windows and shut it off, get out and let it go through it's power down procedure and then open the door and get in and press and hold the power button on the infotainment system until it powers on....it stays on all the time I am drying/detailing the car.
I can also walk up to my car after its been sitting get in and just press and hold the power button on the infotainment system and it will stay powered on until you turn it off.
At the drive in, I doubt you would want to have your dash all lit up by putting it into service mode.
I also, turn off the screen display while the infotainment system is running to help save the battery. The screen does not go completely dark, it does have a bit of the backlight showing at night, but it is better than having the infotainment screen all lit up.
My car is always unlocked for the infotainment system to be on. I am pretty sure that this is a standard feature on GM cars. I could do this with my 2012 Buick as well.

I just checked and lowering the display turns it off, too, but the cubby light comes on. I didn't wait long enough to see if it would turn off after awhile.

Thanks for that! It works on my 2014, too! No idea why I had not tried it before.
