Not impressive. My Mercedes-Benz turbodiesel sedan with 3.2 liter engine, @ #4,000 does 161 mph, right out of the box. And I guarantee you that it doesn't burn a full tank of diesel fuel in the process. Lol!
"Impressive," is the 6-cylinder 2017 Ford GT doing 200 mph in ONE MILE! That's impressive!
They say my big old 2003 Cadillac STS with the Northstar V8 could do 190 MPH but I think It had a speed governor on to limit it. All I remember about it is it was fast.
Did 145 mph in my 1970 LT-1 back in the day on the Audubon while in the USAF stationed in Germany. Think it would have gone 150, but I couldn't. Doing that on those Firestone Wide Ovals........crazy!

It's amazing what some of these square boxes of sedans will do. The Goodyear? Test Track in Laredo, Texas is a big ole round/oval track, where you can cruise @ 145 mph no sweat. That's where I'd like to open Up the Stingray at.

A little disappointing. I thought they'd be at least 190+ mph..
There are number of factors that could have played into the OP's top speed run that might have lowered it, from the wind direction, to the wind speed, to road surface temp, and we haven't even addressed the mechanical factors or the weight of the driver or any payload he might have had in the car.

Odd that it would take 10 miles to hit 180. I did that in 2.7 miles from a dead stop at the Kennedy space center runway. I did 2 of these runs, turned around and drove back at 130 and used under a 1/4 tank of gas.

The Wide Ovals were better than the Firestone 500's. The 500's shredded.

Last Thursday night in the Southern Arizonian desert, I8 west bound.
Indicated 181mph. Completely stock car.
Took 10 miles of pedal to the metal to top out.
A/C cuts out at that speed to give 100 percent of car's power. Burned through a full tank of gas in 20 minutes.
Great first thread. Can’t wait to read OP’s second thread, if he survives!
I'm of two minds reading this. The Land Speed racer in me says, "10 miles!?! Good grief, in which gear?" We gear for flying at the Salt Flats but still get up to speed in 5-miles!
That said, REALITY sets in. It was an amazingly... dangerous stunt on any open road, for you and others! NOT a good idea!!! Ever seen a car wrecked at that speed... even if it doesn't actually hit anything? I have, more than once.
So are we talking base, Z71 with spoiler, etc? I've hit 165mph I think, but noticed the acceleration really slows down about that point. Going fast is cool, but it's so smooth you kind of want to slow down so you can accelerate again. It wouldn't surprise me if the ECM fuel tables cut down after a certain speed
Think my 114ci Harley Breakout cuts out at 105mph stock but can be tuned to hit 140mph or so (not that I would try, hitting 3 digits is cool though on a bike)

In 2001 I had my 1998 Honda Valkyrie up to 140 and that was well within 1.5 miles. It was still pulling but I got off the gas and called it going "up" the Delaware river turnpike toll bridge from Pennsylvania to N.J
I was much younger then. Very little traffic at the time.

The fact that the "top speed" is best achieved in fifth gear (out of seven) tells you that 6th and 7th are just too tall for really utilizing the maximum power of the Corvette's V8 engine.........especially with a 3.42:1 rear axle ratio.
I always though it would be cool to have the state police shut off a long stretch of an Interstate highway and leave it open for Corvettes only.

Ever hear of the Silver State Classic Challenge or the Nevada Open Road Challenge? It’s an open road challenge on public roads closed off by the Nevada Highway Patrol and/or the Nevada Department of Transportation. It may be exactly what you are looking for. Check it out at sscc.us.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
