Oil temp
1. Coolant (water/glycol) temperature will rise quicker than oil when vehicle is started & driven.
2. Coolant temperature will be controlled by the thermostat, radiator, & fan as required. Normally will be 5 to 15 F higher than the thermostat designated (opening) temperature.
3. As temperatures climb, oil temperature can exceed coolant temperature when vehicle is driven aggressively. The more power you are requesting the engine to put out, the oil temperature will tend to increase, Oil temperature is then moderated & somewhat controlled by the coolant.
Long way of answering that depending on conditions it is normal for oil temperature to be higher than coolant temperature.
In steady state cruising water and oil temps will be about the same however as you work the engine harder (more RPMs) the oil temp will climb. Don't worry the oil can withstand these higher temps. On track my oil is about 40 degrees above coolant temp with the engine being pushed hard.
