Today while driving home from a drive, stopped at an intersection and depressed the clutch to shift into first and the engine raced right up to the red line before I let off the clutch. Did this about 4 times before I restarted the car. I was then able to proceed normally although I noticed the rev match indicator light didn't turn yellow indicating it was functioning. Drove a few more miles and CEL came on. Stopped for a few minutes then restarted and now the car just limped along with not much throttle response. Turned it off for a few minutes and it stared and ran fine with the CEL still on and the rev match working. Drove about 20 miles, made another stop and restarted and CEL was off and the car drove fine. I'm going to get it checked out, but any ideas? Also about a month ago, the RPM's surged like this while cruising in gear a couple times very briefly. For what it's worth, I have a Soler throttle controller installed for about a year now and no previous issues. Wondering if that could be related somehow.
Was the car recently serviced? Reason I ask is that something similar happened to me after a recent service/oil change. I had my Rev Match engaged and I was backing into a parallel, street parking stall. I engaged Reverse and was backing in. When I shifted to 1st gear to straighten the car, the engine began revving. I kept my foot on the clutch but it freaked me out as my right foot was not on the throttle. I shifted back to neutral and turned off the car. I restarted it and it was fine. No codes. It happened a second time a few days later, but has been fine ever since.

Was your throttle controller partially disconnected either at the controller or at the base near the pedal? I had disconnected the controller last week to move it to a different spot and did not plug it back in. I then started the car the next day and forgot it was still unplugged. The car started fine and then sputtered and died when I plugged the controller back in. The issue you had may have something to do with the throttle controller.

Been having some similar issues with the Soler TC.
I installed it loosely for a test drive and it worked like a champ. After the test drive I started working on where best to mount it. In the process of routing the cable I disconnected the TC display after turning the power off but with TC digits still displaying. Mike advised me to wait till the TC digits go dark, as it's talking to the car's computer.
Reconnecting it with car power off and repowering the car generated a CEL. After reinstalling the TC display Mike indicated the CEL would extinguish either after three start cycles, or I could disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes to clear it. I tried the three starts and it worked normally for a while then the light show and limp mode returned.
I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours and did another drive.. About five minutes' driving generated the same annunciators. The OBD II reader displayed a P2238 code
Contacted Mike for suggestions, as I've run out the string of tricks so far...
So you are having a throttle issue and you previously mod'ed the car with a throttle controller. I had worked in the IT industry, software side, and I can tell you IMO that there is no such thing as plug and play.

Well, no disrespect to you but the throttle controller worked fine and there is definitely a difference in throttle response. So I'll take your comment with a grain of salt.

No such thing? Hmm... FWIW, I installed the Soler TB months ago and it has performed as expected and been trouble free...

Yes until yesterday mine was also. I drove the car several miles today and all was well. I'll assume it was a glitch in the controller as the rev match as well as the controller worked flawlessly today. Will keep an eye on it.
What code caused the CEL? Rev Match issues don't cause CELs. However, faults that can generate a code that causes the CEL to light can cause Rev Match issues. Focus on the code. If not present now it should be shown in the history file. Don't try to reset until you know what the code is and the potential faults that can cause the code.

Can you check codes on the dash on my c7 like I could on the c5?
