I know there is a system that allows convertible top operation in either direction. I am just curious why GM didn't incorporate auto UP as well as down?
Good question, it would have made a lot of sense! I would like to be able to get out of the car and then close the top, especially in tight parking spaces.
It probably cost a few bucks, so the bean counters killed it.

There is a really nice product, albeit rather expensive, that does what you are talking about. It's called Smarttop. LINK
On pre-2018 models, you can also buy a plug-in to have the windows go up too. It was great on my 2016--just push a button and the top closed and the windows went up! On my 2019, however, only the top is activated.
I have the SmartTop too. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I highly endorse it on a convertible.
You don't have to hold the FOB button continuously to lower the top, a simple button press and hold for 3 seconds will get it done.
To put it up, same thing, short key press for a few seconds and the top comes up as do the windows.
INside, on the button, it is a depress of the bottom half for a quick second and the top and windows go down without having to hold the button. Same for putting it up, press the top half of the button for a quick second and the top goes up as do the windows.
Very easy to install on the car!

I have the SmartTop as well, and it's for sale if anyone cares.
It is for a 2014, but I think it works for the windows up until 2017. It is one of the best gifts I ever received. I've raved about it here often. I don't have a Vert anymore. so I don't have any need for it.
