Default Engine residue

You guys mind checking your engines and let me know if this is normal/typical for the 6.2L LT1s? I cleaned it with some degreaser and i will monitor the build up in time. i just wanted to make sure it is not a major issue. My car has 20k miles!

Doesn't look normal. I have 45k on my 18, engine is still spotless.

I would say it depends on how/where you drive it. If driven in wet or salt treated roads & put away wet then this would be normal. Someone who never drives in rain, keeps it in a garage, not a daily driver then this would not be normal. JMO 👍

If it is the black, sooty looking area, no it is not normal. I notice what looks like an MSD plug wire... meaning your car has some mods... who knows what all. That alone makes it difficult to know what might be going on, since there may be other mods we don't know about. All the best, in any event.

If that is soot and not grease you probably have a blown head gasket or possibly a warped head. A quick way to check is to start the car and hold a piece of white cloth against the front of the cylinder head. If it is leaking you will get soot on it. Don't let the engine warm up before you check. When the head, engine block and gasket get hot they can swell just enough to close the gap.

Doesn’t look normal to me. The engine in my car does not have anything like that on it. Might be worth having it checked out.

Well my car has 18k miles and it is completely stock except for the AC delco iridium spark plugs and the MSD wires which i replaced myself recently and noticed the residue on the engine. I degreased the engine and been driving the car daily and i have not seen the sooty substance come back. I purchased this car in florida and i live in Texas. Both places are notorious for Rain.

i just purchased my headers and i plan on takin this car in for a cam swap mid November. I will have the head gaskets replaced when the swap is worked on.
