Default First Burnout

Just tried a little burnout today in the new to me Vette. Tour Mode, T/C off, brakes applied, let em spin about 3 seconds, came off the brake and feathered out of it as it got a little sideways on the crowned road.

Pretty easy to catch it and bring it straight with T/C off. Counter steer brought from right to just a little left then straight right away.

I wanted to go big but I don’t want to kill the tires so soon! I’ll let em smoke when it’s on the way to get new shoes anyway.

Welcome to the CF and glad you're enjoying your new Vette. Personally I've never understood the thrill of deliberately destroying your tires.

So true. Doing burnouts will quickly lessen the life of these soft tires. An aggressive burnout could cost $100 of wear (so to speak) besides throwing stones into the rear quarters. Eventually, when you go to sell, a smart buyer looks for that kind of abuse as well. On the flip side, however, you will certainly understand how to control your car better and this is certainly a good thing if you are an aggressive driver. Thanks for posting how your car reacted so we don't have to do this to our cars.

23Seven, nice that you are excited. Probably your first Vette. Get it out of your system. Enjoy, it's your car and toy.
I never have but I am a older conservative. I like acceleration and never did do burn-outs.
My car is great for sex. I feel I got screwed good by loosing $22k depreciation for 3 years of ownership. With only 15k miles, that's about $1.50 per mile.
Maybe I should have a cigarette after each ride to complete the screwing but I don't smoke.
Love my 2017 Grand Sport and dream of getting a C8.
Best wishes to all Vette owners!!

Yes, there's many ways to enjoy a C7, whether doing burnouts, driving it 30,000 miles per year, driving it 3 miles per year, waxing it every weekend, or just sitting next to it in the garage enjoying a beer, it's all good.

Not only throwing stones but the nasty burnt rubber going all up in the fender wells and rear quarters and is a pain to get off, if you can get it off. One of the first things I check for when purchasing a performance car. In addition to the tires it certainly doesn't do your engine, drivetrain and brake system any good either.

At some of the larger Harley-Davidson events they have "burn-out pits" set up, where the bikes are locked in a stall while the driver's literally melt the rear tires off the Harley's. It smells disgusting, fills the air with black smoke, the noise is deafening and the bikes will have rubber caked on them 1/2" thick. WHAT GREAT FUN.

Welcome to the forum. My advice... always keep T/C on especially on crowded streets. Youtube "corvette fail" and you will see why.

Wow, bunch of Nancy’s. So much better to keep it parked all the time with a car cover on it. 🙄
Glad and you’re enjoying your car op. 👍

Yessir! Our Vettes will eat tires in a beautifully executed burnout. Don't get rattled by these guys, enjoy your car. There's nothing like the smell of a good tire-shredding burnout... at the track.

Not a Nancy, just enjoy spending my rubber on turns at 70>90 mph than in a straight line, but to each their own!

The car was easy to catch because StabiliTrak was still on; i.e., turning off traction control does not turn off StabiliTrak.
