Default Blackstone Report Should I Worry?

My 2019 GS was built 07/19 and I just hit 526 miles so I had the dealer change my oil as per the break-in required by Chevy.

Three of the results seemed not good to me especially the iron content. This was from a Blackstone Oil Analysis.

The 3 concerns are as follows:

Aluminum = 13
Iron = 367 this seems very high to me.
Copper = 45

Anyone else has an iron level on their car at 500 miles?
The car runs great and did not use a drop of oil.

Should I be concerned?

I doubt it. If you really want to worry cut open your the oil filter removed for the 1st oil change. Inside you will find all sorts of machining leavings etc. Didn't Blackstone give you a reading of engine condition along with the reported numbers?

Thanks for the reply.

All they said was " the iron was higher than expected" possibly due to the break-in. Since I guess my car sat at the dealer for a long time I gave Blackstone the engine hours too which was 42 total.
I guess I should mention that I did the break-in by the book. I was very careful.
I looked at some other members' results and have not seen anybody's with an iron level that high.

526 miles and 42 hours operation sounds like a lot of startup, idle, and shutdown. About the hardest thing you can do to an engine, IMO.

Now that the oil is changed, go drive her regularly; maybe a 15-30 mile road trip whenever you start her up. That a.) exercises everything else, b.) gives you the great fun of driving these awesome cars, and c.) will get the car up to operating temperatures for enough time to dry out the engine oil.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Thanks, Mike!

You are probably right. I think my car which sat at the dealer for a long time was started and stopped a lot! I only have the car a few months and I made a point to bring it up to full operating temp anytime I drove it before parking it. What worries me is that the car had 48 miles on it when I purchased it. Who knows how it was driven before I got my hands on it.

I never do oil analysis on the initial break in period. Already know silicone and metals will be high. When new I changed oil at 500 miles and again at 1500 miles. Oil analysis at 1500 miles showed :
aluminum = 3
iron = 13
copper = 8
Don't know what blackstone had to say but I wouldn't be too concerned yet. I would do another analysis between 1500 and 2000 miles and again after 3000 additional miles. Looking for the wear metals to be trending well down toward universal averages

agree with others. More miles at operating temps should yield far better and more accurate numbers.

Enjoy the ride

What's Blackstone's analysis report?

a.) Nothing a warranty won't cover
b.) With that many hours and that few miles, probably didn't do anything.

As far as the Blackstone report goes (I use them on all my vehicles), the first sample is a bit of a shot in the dark, just comparing to historical averages. Get another sample to them at the next oil change and you'll start getting a better idea.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

All good suggestions. 367 Is high for iron. I had the oil analyzed on a GT500 several years ago at 500 miles and the iron was 87, which I though was high. If you’re not experiencing any issues, particular blue smoke... then I wouldn’t worry about it, but I would closely monitor. I suspect that your next oil change will yield much lower results. If not, then I’d been concerned...

Drive the car. It will do better if driven more. GM didn't design it to sit around.

Speak for yourself, as you may be concerned how much someone else is driving "their" C7, but I'm not. Their car, they can drive it as little or as much as they want.

That's your best bet, since they're the best source with a plethora of data/history with the chemicals present...

During the break in period the wear metals will always be higher than once the engine breaks in, but that does seem extra high to me. I did my first oil analysis on my C7 at 1100 miles and my iron level was at 48.

That being said, I wouldn't be concerned unless the level stays that high or goes higher on subsequent reports. I bet you it will trend significantly downwards from here on out.

Got my 2019 from Carvana you know 98 % of owners don't change there oil at 500 miles .
Mine had 2.900 miles .
If this was a game changer Corvette would specify and make sure owners and dealers change the oil at 500 miles.

Just curious, where did you get your 98% data?
Corvette/GM does specify in the owner's manual that first oil change for dry-sump systems (Z51/GS/Z06) be preformed at 500 miles and you are also alerted by the C7's oil lift monitor. You are at risk of voiding your engine warranty if you do not.
